I’ve found my new love which is the Great Club. Just call me Captain Caveman! BONK!

They added a Sodden Ring in Latria that lets you move normally in the Swamp waters, you need to drop Latria to pure black to find it though.

Did they expand any movesets? That’s one of the hardest parts to going back to the game for me. There’s not enough variety to make an interesting new build. Maybe I would just do magic.

The fact that you can actually see stuff in the distance makes it easier, less harrowing. The original had you wading into pure, oppressive darkness.

I adjusted the brightness on my PC for another game and the next time I played DS2 the gutter, which usually requires a torch was easy to play without one. I assume that would work for any game.

anyone collecting the secret coins to get a secret key to get a secret item behind a secret door?

Me on Steam to @ShivaX just now.

Awesome :D

Since I know I’m going to be killed by the first major boss, what should I spend my 3,500 souls on?
Or will I be able to recover souls outside of his lair so I don’t have to face him again immediately?

You can recover your bloodstain in the boss room. I forget if the maiden in black has unlocked before or after the boss fight, but if you can level up do that. Long term that’s really not much to lose so don’t sweat it. Buying items is usually a waste as you can farm most things. Souls are really for upgrading stats, and and upgrading weapons.

If you are literally on the first boss, spend it on anything that makes fire.

How do you upgrade stats? I saw I can upgrade my Longsword so was curious if I should do that. All my stuff is broken down so maybe I should be repairing too?

OK I’ll get some fire stuff. BTW, do you get more than “1” leaf or whatever? Cause the simplest heals seem ridiculously expensive.

Yes, repair your items, Maiden in Black upgrades stats but I think you need to beat the first boss first.

You’ll be able to upgrade stats after beating the first boss. If you die in a boss arena, you can pick your souls up inside, but honestly it’s nice to spend them all beforehand, so every time you go in the door your focus is on how to learn/win the fight rather than how to safely get over to wherever you died.

And go ahead and spend what you have on repairs, upgrades, and items. Spend souls when you have a chance, but don’t sweat it if you lose some – there are always plenty more where they came from (and it’s easy to farm them quickly in a few locations if you really want). Remember that the real progress is your own growing knowledge of the levels, enemies, combat rhythms, etc.

Ok thanks! Btw, you all playing in graphical or performance mode?

And do you played with the camera offset or centered? My aim is absolutely atrocious.

Are you right-clicking to lock on enemies? Also, in the first area, you should be able to loot healing items fairly frequently. There should also be a bunch of fire stuff laying on the ground or lootable (grenades and stuff to set your weapon on fire). If you can upgrade your weapon, that’s usually better than upgrading stats. I try to spend my souls on upgrades and repairs before stat increases. But, if you haven’t beaten the first boss, then you don’t really have a choice.

I had not been right clicking to lock onto enemies. I keep forgetting that’s a thing. Does that help with swordplay?

It definitely helps a lot with dodging. If you’re locked on the enemy, then you dodge perpendicular to the enemy much easier. Or diagonally, or however you want.

On bigger enemies where the camera is a problem, sometimes it’s better to lock on, to head in the right direction, and then turn the lock back off. But for most enemies, locking on is good, as long as the camera behaves itself.

So you really think I should be running around like this? LOL
This gets me to 20/40, and wow the responsiveness for rolls is amazing, but… but…
