Fragrant Ring is the primary way. Crescent Weapons also add regen dependent on upgrade level. Other than that you need to use the Spice items like healing items but for MP instead of HP.

Yea!!! So I about threw my controller through the tv as I spent all evening collecting souls. I had 10,000 I was ready to spend and then got killed twice in the same doorway. So I quit her and went to my knight dude to see if I could find a way to take on the rolling skeletons. Thanks to advice here I had a large club I two handed which timed well took them out in nothing flat. So I spent the rest of the night farming those guys to build my guy up. Got the falchion, regenerative ring, the ring that regens magic, a compound long bow… which I’m now wondering if I want to level up my strength to 22, or if I should be going hitpoints and stamina.
Frustrating night turned into a good one. Now I wonder how I can get my royalist to take out the ekel ethos as easily as my knight.

there is a way to kill the red dragon with bow and arrows (lots of arrows), it’s a way to shift towards white. Also this annoying dragon had it coming …

Congrats on the joy that is Demon’s Souls.
Back in the day the advice for skellies in 4-1 was to just punch them. It won’t wreck them but it does better than slashing attacks. The other approach is to get your hands on a mace. There’s a blessed one in 5-1. Enjoy your stay at the beautiful Valley of Defilement.
They’re very easy to parry/riposte or backstab once you learn their pattern. You just need to kite them so you can fight them one on one.
I was smashing them with flame toss until I found a morning star. Now I use that, much more efficient.
I’m currently working through this level. I did the first boss, some fat blob with a glowing bird on his head. My attacks bounced off him, but I climbed some stairs and tossed fireballs at his head. That did the trick. I got two achievements for killing him, including one for doing it without knocking him down! I didn’t know you were suppose to knock him down. I was wondering how the hell you do this boss as a melee character.
All the bosses are very easy with magic. I can appreciate the corrections they made to this in later souls games.

How so? I can’t kill the giant knight dude with magic. I read you’re supposed to target his head, but I can’t get a soul arrow off and hit his head without getting hit myself.

For Royalty. Are you all using the wand in your right or left hand? I see some weapons help magic. Is it better to have weapon plus wand vs, wand plus shield?
Remember Classes are just starting items, so reframe your thinking, the question isn’t for those playing Royalty but rather for those casting spells.
Anyhoo
Either hand works, just have either a weapon on swap on right hands or a shield on swap if left. I’d say the reasons for left hand wielding the wand are at a level of skill you aren’t at. Left hand lets you have a weapon with full moveset in right but you wont have access to a shield with the catalyst equipped which I think you are going to have a tougher time with.

At what intelligence level can you take 3 spells with you? Or is that ever possible?
You can target his chest with magic. You still need to be behind him to get past his shield.
He took the longest because I had to wait for my mp to recharge. I got impatient and would up whacking his ankles instead of hiding. So i did like half his health with magic and the other half “legit”.
I got the Maneater down as well. I was able to burn down the first one before the other landed. If you fight it near the fog gate, and don’t walk too far out on the bridge, I guess the other one doesn’t bother you. The pattern was whack, dodge, whack, dodge… repeat. If he flew away throw magic at him when you get some shots.

So I pretty much have to get in the ground to take him out? Can’t knock him down from up above?
Sorry I have to ask, @jpinard is this your first Souls game?

Yes. I’ve never played this kind of game, and in fact, this is not the kind of game I ever play. Very much out of my wheel-well. Sorry for so many questions.
No problem. Keep asking more questions. That’s what the majority of this thread is for, if you go all the way back to 2009. This kind of game is not easy to understand, and people here were very patient with me back then in answering them. Heck, despite their detailed answers I still didn’t fully understand them because I never tried some things until Dark Souls 2 (like joining other people’s games). Heck, even 12 years later, I’ve still never laid down the stuff you need to ask for help from other players, so I’m not 100% sure on how that works since I’ve never done it personally (successfully, I should add. I did lay down something in Dark Souls, but no one helped me).

Thank you :)
Someone mentioned nexus suicide earlier. Does that not count towards going black, as opposed to being killed in one of the other places?

There is no world tendency in the nexus. That’s why it’s the only safe place to die without any tendency effects.

When Demons Souls came out on PS3 I imported it because of the intro trailer and music. I played it, but I didn’t even know it had multiplayer! I didn’t know where to go what to do and gave up after Phalanx boss.
