Hmmm. How hard is it to get a “helper”?

Have to tell you something that could have been frustrating if I wanted to do MP. The other day I was finishing out the confusing catacombs in 2-2 and had a lot of souls on me. I took a large elevator down and saw 2 red warriors coming at me. I wasn’t in good shape and was scared so I cranked the wheel to get out as fast as possible. They dove at me and just missed the lift and plummeted to their deaths in the chasm beneath. Came back down and their souls were 50 foot down the hole… unreachable. Only later did I find one has a black stone thingie to invade worlds and I don’t know what else I missed. Kinda concerning.

Aaah they did the same thing to me!! I never figured out how to invade worlds, this must be why!

To get friends you need to be human. There’s 2 blue stones, one you use to put down a summon sign and looks like a crystal. The other looks like a blue broken egg and turns you human when you use it.

If you put down a summon sign, someone else can see it and summon you to their world. If you successfully kill a boss with them, you’ll get credit for the boss in souls you can spend and you’ll turn human. This is a good way to practice and learn boss fights before you do them yourself.

When you are human you’ll see blue runes on the floor that are other player’s summon signs. Interact with them to summon that player to help you.

However, in this game, because they semi-permanently penalize you for dying while human, not many people do it. I’ve had a real hard time on some bosses getting summoned or finding help. Dark Souls is much better about this. When you die it doesn’t adversely affect your world, you just become a zombie until you burn another Humanity to become human again. It encourages jolly cooperation.

35k seems like a lot, but I promise, this is ultimately not a big deal. There are ways to farm hundreds of thousands of souls in like 20 minutes, if you really want to level up. I think where I’m at, soul level 85 or so, I need like 70K just to level up once. Don’t worry about losing souls. Let go! It’s liberating!

There are some red phantoms that will attack you that are NPCs. They are rare in Demons Souls but there are two of them in 2-2. You can only get invaded by a player character when you are human and you’ll get a message saying that “player XXXXXXX has invaded your world” when they join or something to that effect.

Yea, those are the two that fell in the hole. Not sure if I’ll have another chance to get the black stone or not since their drop was deep in the chasm, thus uncollectible.

Hopefully when you run into another black phantom they will drop the stone.

OK because I’m crazy I want to make a character that specializes in parrying and backstabbing. There’s something phenomenally satisfying watching those effects and neither of my two current builds are very good at it with their specialties.

Any suggestions on class and skills? Especially what to put points into for the first 5-10 levels?

Starting class really doesn’t mean much long term. A royal is the blank slate I believe since you start at soul level 1 there. If you really want to restart you can try a thief. For parries and backstabs you may want a pure dex build. Low amor to sneak up for backstabs and a buckler / Estoc for parrying.

Whatever you do, I hope you make a new character / save slot for it. That way you can always go back to the old one if you want to.

Yes. Maybe. It’s actually been a while since I played so I am not 100%. But each variant has a base level requirement and they are not all the same. Once you upgrade you go back to +1 for each variant and it goes up to +5.

One of the few changes to the PS5 version is better support for multiple characters. There’s a spot in the Nexus to swap even,

Also @jpinard it sounds like you’re getting excited for all the options and weapons and build ideas. That’s fine but keep in mind that one of the strengths of the series is replayability. You might be better off playing it straight to finish the game once and then rolling a new character later. If you get hooked, there will be plenty of opportunity.

Excellent point. I think I’ll roll him to just tinker with and then go back to my main.

Looking for the stones needed to upgrade the crescent falchion and can’t find them anywhere shadow something wrong other… Did any of you farm some place to get them to upgrade crescent weapons?
Nope got it wrong, it’s moonlightstone

Can’t believe it, just beat flamekurker. I tried to do timing as best I could to avoid his hits and jumps, but after 10 tries I gave up and just decided to use up all my moon plants and rush him with unfettered crazy. Using my Blessed Mace I just whacked the hell out of him and then would back off to heal. Rinse and repeat, I downed all my 20 some full hp heals lol.

But happy cause now I have new weapon upgrade options! Yippee!

I always recommend a magic build. Because magic is OP in Demon’s Souls. FromSoft spent every subsequent game nerfing it.

A case can be made that Dark Souls 2’s dark magic build is more OP. But that takes a lot of work. (You have to level magic and divine equally)

Hi JP, ever wondered what that bottomless pit in Boletaria 1-1 is ? Well, it is not bottomless. If you ever get pure white or pure black, in Boletaria, you should scout around …

I remember when I played orignial on PS3, I think the world tendency was pure black (helloween event maybe) and suddenly areas were reachable, it was quite a surprise. I wonder if they will do stuff like world tendency events on the new version. Would be cool.

The only DS game I do magic in is DS2. I have even played the DLCs as a mage. But I have never really dove into the dark magic that much as a build, other than wear the gear which is cool.

Pretty sure they nerfed magic in DS2 like a lot of the other extreme builds. I played it before that time and it was glorious. Well, my miracles build anyway. So many lightning spears right to the face.

Lightening Spear was nerfed a long time ago. With regular magic build and some bonfire aescetic use you can build a pretty solid arsenal. Also, DS2 has so many consumables that restore your spell use that you really don’t have to worry about running out of them.

I decided I wanted to try to help people with some bosses because I want to get white world, but I can’t seem to leave my soul sign, do I need to be in a specific place? For instance I’m at the phalanx demon in human form and the blue stone has no options I can click.
