I don’t think that’s true about being invulnerable while dodging. Flamelurker has killed me repeatedly while I’m dodging.

Flamelurker is weak to magic damage. Try summoning in help?

Soul arrow is your friend against Flamelurker. Even at the lowest possible level you get for it. One hand with the wand, one hand with the shield. Also, possibly get the Water Veil spell to increase your fire resistance.

Been making some progress the last few days. Killed Miralda today, was hoping she would drop her axe, but wasn’t the case. Also beat the Tower Knight and killed the dragon by the bridge before him. This game feels incredibly rewarding.

Quick question about the ring Miralda drops, says it increases direct hit damage but reduces other damage. Is this damage I receive, deal, or both?

Go to a different area and try to progress in those. Gather some souls and increase your soul level, and try again later. One thing I’ve definitely been learning about this game is, the general consensus you get on how to kill something doesn’t always work for everybody.

Only the damage you deal, on a direct hit only.

Flamelurker is the hardest boss in the game, imo. Skip him for now or summon help if you’re having trouble.

It’s possible to kill Flamelurker with no risk and no action skills. The tactic (the one before the last).

Flame lurker is always a pain in the ass. One thing about dodging his attacks, are you evading backwards or to the side? I’ve found it easier to dodge by rolling to the side as some of his attacks create explosions in front of him. Soul arrow as said already is excellent against him. I remember for my fight with the purple flame shield equipped, I put warding on to also help.

It’s interesting to see all these different strategies for Flamelurker. I beat him with just straight melee with the purple flame shield and winged spear. I’m pretty sure you have a healing window when he is yelling and bursting in flames. It was a really long fight, but once you recognize the patterns and when it is ok to attack, it is pretty straightforward. Make sure you’re below the half equip burden for fast dodging/running. To echo others though, if you’re frustrated with a boss, go try one of the other levels.

And yeah, that is probably the worst or second worst boss run in the game.

ckessel, use a Stone of Ephemeral eyes right before the fog to Flamelurker (this will reduce the chance of black soul invasion), then summon some help. Flamelurker is dramatically easier with even just one blue soul.

Out of curiosity have you completed 1-2 yet. If so go the the Tower Knight archstone and backstab the 2 blue eyed knights, that should net you enough souls for all the supplies you need in a couple minutes.

Not sure I understand summoning. Is it the multiplayer coop game? I’m a single player exclusively kind of guy, so the thought didn’t even occur to me to try and play it multiplayer.

I finally beat Flamelurker. I was using Soul Ray, I just couldn’t stay alive long enough to do much. The key ended up being DO NOT DODGE! Ever. Flamelurker would do one of his attacks mid-dodge and kill me. As long as I just backpedaled and circled with my Purple Flame shield up, it wasn’t too bad. I still died about another 5 times as I’d get caught with the shield down trying to heal up or get more magic.

I’m happy to have beaten him, but to be honest, I’m not sure if I actually had any fun in the process. I’m getting that a lot with Demon’s Souls. A sense of completion and relief it’s done rather than a sense of enjoyment. We’ll see how the next couple levels play out.

Is the pure white event still going on? I haven’t logged in since the pure black event, and just totally spaced on taking advantage of this event for the few pure whites I still needed.

Interesting. I fought him with shield and spear, and relied on dodging most of the time. Aside from his AoE attack, which takes him awhile to cast, I could dodge his attacks all day long. The AoE would disrupt the dodge, however.

Flamelurker is by far the most cheesiest boss in the game imho. Though for some unknown reason I have real problems with the leech guy from 5-1…

Really? I stood at long range and plinked him with flaming arrows - he never even got a chance to hit me or, well, do anything.

Is flaming arrows a bug or an intended feature? Should I feel bad about using it?

It’s over, now.

Not sure how you managed that. That was my goal initially, but he’s just constantly moving at me, attacking, in my face. Once in a while he’d run off and ponder for 5 seconds or something and I’d be able to heal and take a spice potion, but otherwise he was just constantly on top of me.

Demon’s Soul winning the GOTY at gamespot seems to be inflaming the majority of my friends who have preferred Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2 or Assassin’s Creed II to win instead.

I believe that reference was to the leechmonger boss, not flamelurker. Flamelurker can get stuck on pieces of his level, like the beginning of the stairs or the ribcage, but it’s not a reliable event like leechmonger being unable to hit you at the beginning of his level and well within arrow range.

Your friends are dumb?

Seriously though, Demon’s Souls is an amazing game and is probably my personal GotY beating out Dragon Age - which definitely should NOT have happened, but it did!
