I guess for me it was basically islands with giant depraved ones (arrows) + everything else. I got really good at headshotting them in the distance using just the visible steam from their nostrils, and I once again mourned the absence of bonus headshot damage.
When I replayed the US version, I did 5-1 early on to get some of the items in the level, especially the mace, but the rest is definitely best left for last. Certainly evacuate paid for itself many times over.
The bosses were trivial, although in terms of plot (such as it is) I found the Maiden, Garl, and Selen among the more interesting of the tragedies in the game. The cutscene of Garl rising from the swamp is one of the few that I still watch for kicks.
Yeah, I had a devil of a time there too. I ended up going out wide with a thiefs ring and regen ring, and just used the bow. That actually made it fairly easy, though an excersice in patience.
I have to agree that 5-2 is easily the toughest bit of the game. Those giants are vicious and there is virtually no room to dodge.
Has anyone found a good place to farm/find spiderstone shards? the tunnel in 2-2 is giving me an OK drop rate on chunks, but I have yet to get a shard.

You’ve actually had good luck, then. The chunks are usually rarer drops than the shards. The 2-2 tunnel is the easiest place to farm them both so you’re already in the right place. By the way, wikidot says only the miners without pickaxes (the ones seemingly mining with their bare hands) drop the spiderstones.
I hate the plague baby pond; got killed in it right after killing Astrea…and spent another hour trying to get my body back (getting it…dying…etc.). Plague kills so damn fast. But, unless you’re greedy like I was, it IS totally avoidable.
Yeah. I primarily fight with melee, but I block and dodge. It takes away all of your mobility…seriously made me think of coming back decked out in full Brushwood and just tanking it.
The meat cleaver black phantom, by the way, ate arrows. What a bitch.
I still need a few chunks to make my sticky bow to +5 (have everything else). I have not been able to get ONE stupid chunk to drop from those guys.

Maybe Merryprankster has some extras?
It took many runs also for me to get those chunks. With some patience they will drop.
If the world tendency is >50% black they will drop more often. Equipping the Large Sword of Searching (doesn’t have to be in your hand, just in the slot) and having higher Luck also helps – but you probably already knew these. Anyway, it’s easier than getting a Pure Bladestone…

That’s the only enemy in the game I have never killed in two playthroughs. I tried a few times with arrows but got killed. I wasn’t patient enough. As I had no need to kill her I eventually left her alone.

I killed patches immediately after coming back out of the hole he, uh, encouraged me to explore, because I almost died down there. no idea he was even a vendor.
I actually had an issue with Patches on my first playthrough. I hadn’t met him in 2-2 yet so he didn’t show in 4-2. Before I “jumped in” I was wandering around 2-2 and stumbled onto Patches. When I went back to 4-2 and he was there. Odd. Seems Really weird for Urbain to be missing though.

I didn’t realize ostrava was missing until halfway through 1-3, but I went back to 1-1 and started up his event chain. I was then able to do the rest of the events with him just fine. Maybe you guys who missed patches/any other NPC can just go back to where they were originally and release them? That might fix stuff.
I need large chunks of hard and sharpstone and can not find them anywhere. Been farming enemies and geckos all day. Also, the Penetrator has been giving me a hard time.
I’ve been trying to invade games as a black phantom to get some good fights, but it seems that everyone is playing with 4 other people and I get the crap beaten out of me. I want some good one on ones!
Yeah, usually when I have my body form I’m not looking for mano-a-mano. More like “crush anybody who interrupts my attempt at beating the level with overwhelming force and making them attack me in an area where they are at a disadvantage.”
This…If you want a good fight look for red markers. I’ve noticed there tend to be a few at the start of 4-1.
I haven’t seen any red markers yet, but I haven’t started NG+. I’m also rarely in body form, if that has anything to do with it.
Are they easy to confuse with normal messages? Because I don’t think I’ve ever seen any.
I’ve seen some in body form, they look like blue soul markers, but are red. Also If you really want a 1 on 1 fight why not get your body back and wait to be invaded. I have rarely had my body and not gotten invaded.
Waiting in my body has me getting bored, so I run through the area, and then at the worst possible time I’ll get invaded and killed.
I’ve been trying to get summoned to be the monk’s phantom. That’s been my best bet for getting good 1v1s. I also got the headwrap, which I think is funny looking.

Grrr. The game has been good, but once again, freaking stupid design choice with a boss. The Penetrator at the end of 1.3 has killed me twice. That’s no so awful, but it’s freaking long annoying run with multiple red knights in my god damn way to get back each time.
Is there some short cut? Because having to redo this section each time to then get killed in 30 seconds is really, really pissing me off.
Did you rescue Biorr? Because you may want to look into doing that…
Also, you do get a shortcut unlock. Remember when you first climb the stairs and you see the gate crash down on the soldier? There’s a lever on the other side of the gate that you can use to open that gate. You’ll still have to fight the 3 red knights on the stairs, but the overall run is VERY short otherwise.
Pull the 3 red eyed knights with a bow. If you hit one with a bow, only that one will aggress you, and you can kill them one at a time. It makes it a longer process, but also much much easier. If you prefer not to do it that way and fight all 3 at once, I would suggest using soul remains.
Now, 4-2, that’s a needlessly long walk to a boss. And whoever designed those glowing light thingies and decided they would be fun to include in the reaper-heavy level should be shot.
