It’s up against Solium Infernium or whatever it’s called, which I don’t own (PC gaming - ick!). I’d feel guilty voting against a game I didn’t play.

Thanks for the info…that’s not brilliant, I think I will stick to my North Regalia for now.

I just did the pure black character tendency event. What I learned:

  • Your character tendency does not change when you kill NPCs in body form! You need to be in soul form.
-If you are in Nexus when you fulfill the requirements of making Mephistopheles appear, she appears only after you leave Nexus and come back.

New Game+++ started (the fourth run). I got through about half of the levels without dying once in NG++. Maneater was again the hardest boss. It took about five tries to kill him.

I think the pure black tendency event is a great one to take on right before you kill the last boss. There’s no reason not to profit off the deaths of Ostrava and the like with colorless souls, and Mephistopheles is hilariously incompetent with anti-magic and clever rat attacks.

Ok, I can’t get past the blue dragon on 1-4. What bizarre timing do you need to get past his flame breath?

You can run past it, but it is much better just to bring a hundred arrows or so, a clever rat ring, and makoto and plink away at him until he dies. Why run when you can kill?

I was hoping to avoid the tedium of plinking away at him. :-/ Oh well.

I run past him, but I can take one hit of the flame without dying. He always has hit me once, but I can make it far enough that I can scoot past after if I time it right.

Just think, though. As you enter the tedium of attempting to kill the False King honestly, you need to have your route as clear as possible. You know, before you give up and cheap kill him (YMMV).

Well, it’s been something close to a week since I gave up on Allant and I have to say I have zero desire to go play again. I know Demon’s Souls has gotten a lot of kudos, but it seems to appeal more to the completionists than the explorers or story driven types and I’m definitely in the later category. I just can’t muster any enthusiasm to plunk 300 arrows at Allant. Nor can I muster any excitement about repeating the levels I’ve already done.

I can see why Demon’s Souls has gotten good reviews and I did very much enjoy working my way through each level. The game lacks legs though for certain mindsets, though for other mindsets I can understand why it’ll have great legs.

You’ll be back. And we’ll be here, still talking about this damned game.

My wife just started it tonight. I predict catastrophe, with the impending ME2 release, but I couldn’t prevent it.

From wikidot:
The encounter on the castle wall after climbing up the tower:
“To just run past, wait on the walkway about one crenelation past the larger crenelation appearing after the two barrels. Start your sprint from here and you can run through fire zone with no damage, and when you go up to the next level the Dragon will fly off to his second encounter place above the staircase.”

The second encounter on the staircase:
“It will first spray from your left to right, then from right to left. If your equipped weight is less than half your max, try sprinting on the right side ONCE IT SPRAYS FROM YOUR RIGHT TO LEFT. You should be able to make it unscathed.”

There’s also a lot of additional information about the various ways of dealing with the blue dragon on that wikidot page. The last time I dealt with him I used the Second Chance miracle to survive the flame breath hit and just ran up the stairs without timing it in any particular way.

There is a certain way to easily and safely kill him without using arrows.

I’ve completed three runs through the game and even though the levels feel mainly the same there are differences as your own skill and confidence and the abilities and equipment of the avatar increase. There are different facets of the fights and level navigation that only reveal themselves after experiencing them again. Repeating the levels does not feel completely samey.

Going with a totally different character build also changes things around quite a bit. A melee fighter has a very different experience to a caster as does a nimble backstabber to a lumbering tank.

I understand your sentiments, though. Repeats cannot match the heady experiences of the virginal exploration.

Do any of you know if is there a special requirement to casting Soul Thirst? I haven’t been able to cast it even though I have bought and remembered the spell. I’ve tried all five different wands. I think I’ve had Ring of Avarice / Silver Bracelets on, maybe one or both are not allowed at the same time as the spell? Other equipment on at the time: Silver Coronet. I have plenty of MP, too. Any ideas?

Other than having > 200 mp, I can’t think of any requirements. I use it with the Ring of Avarice and bracelets + the other soulstealing spell all of the time.

On my way to the flamelurker I got killed by some guy who invaded my game…sigh. The best part is that he killed me while I was fighting other monsters. Is there an option to turn that off (besides disabling my network connection)?

Yeah, it’s called Soul Form.

Don’t be in body form, which you probably aren’t anyway now.

haha…yeah I’m rarely in body form. I was not in body form when I got killed/invaded.

Yes you were.
