Anyone gone paperless?

with my new mac, i’ve been eyeing a fujitsu snapscan s300m to get all my receipts and paper shite into pdf. anyone else gone this route?

Will the government even accept scans of documents in lieu of the actual documents, should you get audited or something?

there apparently is some pdf standard, but the plan is not to shred them but to pack them up and not have to keep them onhand–or at least be able to find/sort what i have.

I don’t see how this is possible yet. Even using a bidet, you still need paper for the drying.

Not if you get one of them there fancy ass-dryers like they have in Japan.

Seriously, I’m going to try to move my office TOWARD paperless, understanding that it will never totally happen. My first step was to buy a fax machine that has network capabilities so that people aren’t having to print stuff out and then schlep it over to the fax machine.

I was going to have Kato, my faithful Filipino valet dry my buttocks.

This is exactly what I’ve been meaning to do this year. How do you like the scansnap? How’s the software package? I was looking at Yojimbo…

it looks like the s300 only works with windows and the s300m only works with mac. i am holding out for the s510 replacement, the 1500 which fujitsu advises me will be cross platform and around $500~.

i haven’t got it yet though we have one of the bigger combined ADF + flatscan models at work for reception. i’ve read bad things about yojimbo and will go with evernote / yep / neatreceipts / receiptwallet.

The Snapscan is awesome. I used it to digitize binders and binders of stuff for work.

Don’t you know that toiletpaper has been replaced by the “Three Seashell” method? explained here.

“Kato?.. Katoooo?.. Zis is your employer speeking… I am calling off ze attack! Not NOW, Kato!”

I wish I still had my toilet paper dispensor key. Removing the toilet paper out of 1 stall and replacing it with this poster and a bowl of seashells would be hilarious. For added hilarity a comment box might be fun, but I’d be afraid of someone putting in a seashell.

If they can’t get it to work they could always beg toilet paper off of another stall after all.

Wicked!

We have a scansnap. I can’t say we’re 100% paperless as we keep a backup of everything important in a filing cabinet. The scansnap is pretty awesome though.

We initially had a problem because the laptop we wanted to connect it to has Vista x64 installed and there was no driver, however we contacted Fujitsu and they sent us a beta driver that has been working so far.

I try to be as paperless as possible in terms of using online bill pay and online statements and just “printing” invoices and such for online stuff to PDF and not to paper unless absolutely necessary, but I don’t see the point in scanning original paper documents/receipts/whatever in if I’m just going to keep holding the paper in a filing drawer somewhere anyway, seems like a lot of work for little to no gain.

I’m eyeing a scanner. What are you paying $500 for compared to a basic MFC? High-quality ADF (fewer jams) and good included software (Acrobat).

The reviews mention the Snapscan S1500 lacks a TWAIN driver. Does it mean I wouldn’t be able to do one button imports into Onenote?

Until bidets become more popular and installed in more locations, I think I will continue to rely mainly on paper.

… wait a minute.

You can use submit the PDF to this website to remove the silly PDF restrictions.

If you don’t like the idea of sending your PDF to a 3rd party for privacy reasons, you can easily unlock it with any of the dozens of PDF unlocking software out there. I use PDF Password Remover from: http://www.anypdftools.com/pdf-password-remover.html

It works. One of my investment brokerages insists on sending me edit-restricted PDF forms. I remove the restriction so that I can type directly onto the PDF with Adobe Acrobat.

The trial version only shows you the first 3 pages of an unlocked document. If you want the full document, you have to pony up $15.

I hope you can find a use for this information!
