I just started watching Time Bandits (TV series version) and it’s pretty cute in the first 20 minutes or so. Nerdy social outcast modern 11 year-old finds the proverbial Narnia-esque portal to another world in his wardrobe etc. Stars Lisa Kudrow among others.

Anyone else watching it?

I think they were more impressions here in the series specific thread:

Ah, thanks, I should have looked for that. Taika Waititi even!

Looking closer at the thread though, I was wrong, no one else has reported back after seeing it yet. You’ll be the first! :)

Started watching the Rashida Jones-starring Sunny last night. Interesting premise, want to see where it goes.

I’ve got through the first 4 Episodes of Sunny so far. It’s kind of an odd show.

It reminds me a bit of those mystery shows, where you’re not entirely sure what the central plot turn that the whole show depends on will be until the end of the show so it’s hard to evaluate the characters because you’re not sure who is lying.

But in the case of Sunny it is even odder. You aren’t even sure what genre the show is. It keeps on layering genres on every episode.

I’ve only watched a few episodes of Sunny, but I just don’t get it. I don’t understand why Jones’ character thinks there’s really a mystery at all. A couple weird things happen, but they can be explained. It just seems like the need to have a plot is the thing moving it forward.

We started watching the Vince Vaughan sun-soaked Florida Keys police slacker (?) show Bad Monkey, based on a novel by Carl Hiaasen.

The first episode was just ok and a bit rocky. We kind of finished the episode not quite sure we knew what was going on (partly, I think, because I was nodding off a bit.) The show is narrated Sam-Elliot-in-Big-Lebowski style by Tom Nowicki, who plays a grizzled ship captain in the show.

But then we started the second episode which, as these serials do, opened with a skippable recap. And Tom Nowicki starts voiceover narration for the recap with a sardonic “Oh you’re the type of person who needs a recap after one episode? Ok, well, here we go.” The fourth wall thing was unexpected and unexpectedly hilarious. And it was the best episode recap I’ve ever seen. It used narration and clips to briefly summarize the plot points of the first episode perfectly and then dropped us right into the action.

We’ve only watched through the second episode, but it was hilarious and fun and really hit its stride. Vaughan is really great as a guy who can’t shut up. And the whole supporting cast is pretty awesome, including especially Michelle Monaghan (as his uh fuck buddy?), Natalie Martinez (as a Miami coroner), and John Ortiz (as his long-suffering partner.) We’re definitely in for more.

We’re watching this too. Got thru ep 2. Enjoying it. It’s got some lesser Justified vibes to it and Vince is trying which makes all the difference. Hope it keeps going strong.

Not enough Michelle Monaghan in that trailer.

Yeah hot damn. She’s my age and has never been hotter.

Presumed Innocent was fairly OK, but I like Jake Gyllenhaal a lot, and my wife loves her some legal procedural mixed with drama. So that biased us towards watching the entire season over the last week or so. Apparently the rest of the world likes it enough that a second season has already been green lit.

I’m hoping that whatever they do, they don’t get M. Night Shyamalan to also write the ending of season 2. You knew they were going to do something like the ending of season 2 the audience has to know who the killer is! but that was just too much.

Wife and I just watched the first episode last night. It was fun!

Hopefully with a completely different story and actors? It makes no sense to continue?

EDIT: Never mind, it sounds like a new case and most likely new actors, which I’d be fine with.

Bad Monkey has been fantastic so far. This is just about the perfect role for Vince Vaughan and he’s nailing it, even down to the little mannerisms that make his character both endearing and annoying.

As mentioned above, the Tom Nowicki recaps and narrations are a highlight of every episode. Also as mentioned above Michelle Monaghan is not featured enough and still completely enchanting. Natalie Martinez gives an excellent performance as Vaughan’s new partner/love interest, and the rest of the supporting cast is fantastic as well.

I enjoyed last year’s one-off show Florida Man with Edgar Ramirez, and this gives the same vibes only better written and with a larger cast and plot scope. Really hoping Bad Monkey is a hit so we can get another season of Vaughan’s Yancy solving mysteries.

Oh yeah, Bad Monkey has been great. I’d love to see more.

It’s a Bull Lawrence thing and I don’t think he’s done detective stuff before. And Shrinking will be back next month too. So far his stuff has been the most consistent in appletv.
