Great question. The answer really depends on where he wants to play. The Steam version can play on official or unofficial steam based servers (like QT3’s) which are modded servers. The Epic store version can play on official steam servers only, not modded. The Windows store version can only play on official I believe, no clue about modded. There’s also an xbox and playstation version, those have their own servers.

So, don’t look for a sale, look for where he wants to play.

DLC is another consideration, Dan_Theman, as you’re pricing this out. If your son plans to play with friends who are all playing on specific Wildcard expansion maps, he would need (at a minimum) the base game + the specific expansion map(s) his friends are on. Additionally, the Genesis DLC is being released in parts, and I believe you have the option to buy individual parts or the whole DLC via a season pass. I don’t know the prices, but there are deals that reduce the cost a bit if you go with a season pass or a bundle.

But if your son just wants to jump into the game and doesn’t have friends who are already committed to the DLC maps, then buying just the base game will give you free access to The Island, Ragnarok, Valguero and a few other maps depending on platform.

going to try and run rockwell BETA Sat morning i think if anyone is interested. I am normally around 8-9 Est. I should have all the dino needs covered. Looks like a good set of armor (flak or better) Shot gun (best you have and at least 400 rounds) Looks like shoulder pets ( I have extra if needed) Healing brews for sure. For beta i dont think we will need back up armor and shot guns but you might pack extra just in case.

I will try to make up a backup set of armor and a bunch of shotgun shells just in case I am up early enough and work doesn’t call me in. Figure me as a 25% chance participant, but I will try to get ready! I won’t have any dinos, though, just myself, my shotgun and some armor! Oh, and I can make up some brews for myself too.
