It is now added to our cluster. API plugins are installed, our 14 standard mods are installed, and .ini files have been updated to our standard.

Waiting on confirmation of the map name (to load it) and server update afterward before I start the server up. Justin from the hosting provider wished us well and is also awaiting the Gen2 map release, hopefully today.

More on the server when the news breaks.

That’s what I do every single time I exit the game. Do a saveworld and make a copy of the file. Only took a couple instances of a 20-minute startup followed by “Hello, Level 1 Character!” before I got wise.

Genesis 2 is now available. It is a 27gb download for the client side.

The Genesis 2 server is up and running. I am cycling through the other servers and updating them also.

I’ve crashed any time I tried to join the Genesis 2 server. There are no more server updates, so I am guessing there is a mod incompatibility. I’ve removed all but 4 mods to see if that fixes it. If not, I will remove all mods and try again.

Update: It was either one of the mods I removed, or the file validation, but I am in. Also, I’ve reduced the resource gathering multiplier. At the 4X rate it was set to, I was getting 300+ meat and hide from a single phiomia. That seemed a bit excessive.

It looks like the host’s server(s) tanked. No Ark instances are running and no commands work in the web portal.

Update: Servers are coming back up as they are updated. It is slow going because the update speed is really really slow.

Update 2: Servers all went down when as the last Ark server started up. I’m going to not start up Aberration and Scorched Earth to see if the hardware is just running out of resources. Genesis 2 takes a lot more memory than the other servers.

Ragan I came back into cell coverage and got all the ticket notifications. It was server side (master server, not relative game servers), not memory related but required a repair. It looks like the ticket is in close-pending, so I’m guessing we’re back up. I’ve not gotten my steam client updated just yet.

Having a good time on Gen2 so far. It seems too easy and I’ve played ark too long to know that’s the case. Anyone tried the harder zones?

I’m playing on the harder zone (left side of the map).

It has not been to bad. Part of that might be because I transferred my Crystal Isles character over. I wasn’t about to lose all my tekgrams and lvl 140 character

I’ve got several observations about the harder side of the map so far:

  1. Stego’s are everywhere and the stego TLC patch really buffed them. Pretty much all stegos (wild and tamed) have 50% armor. And they can specifically harvest berries, or thatch, or wood, depending on what mode you have your stego in.
  2. Bronto’s are everywhere, nothing new about them, just tons of them.
  3. Allosaurus packs are everywhere. They are the most common predator. But a trio of allo’s will lose to a trio of stegos. Especially if the stego’s are mated boosted.
  4. Rexes are pretty rare. I’ve seen maybe 5. Argents are uncommon also. I’ve found a spot on the map where I can find both of them, but again, they are not all over.
  5. The venus fly trap plants, wow, avoid, avoid, avoid. They can dismount you from a dino (except ones like a stego that prevent a rider from being dismounted, another TLC buff). And after they grab you and you escape, run, run, run because you have about 5 to 8 seconds before you pass out. My torpor always has maxed out when I escape from one and I have 40 fortitude.
  6. Supply Beacons. CHA-CHING BABY! I’ve gotten an industrial forge, 2 mini guns, a tek bow, tek claws, mc compound bow, 2 bps for a tek phase pistol, and lots of other really really good loot from them. If you can’t access a supply beacon, make a whip and whip the beacon. Most likely the beacon spawned on top of a harvestable bush and that bush is stopping you from getting accessing the beacon.
  7. Shadowmane taming appears to be broke. In case anyone wants to “figure out the taming on their own”, spoiler tagged. They are a passive tame. They are tamed by capturing fish via a fish basket and feeding it to them when they go to sleep during the daytime, but their taming effectiveness resets between every feeding.

On the easy side literally the only aggressive dino I’ve run in to so far is the standard Dilos. I’ve not gone too far yet though, I need a dino faster than my Carbo or Stego before I venture too far.

New dinos seen have only been the Tek Stryder (and that taming seems crazy involved) and the Maewing, which I’d like to tame and will probably do later tonight or tomorrow. The challenge with the Maewing is getting them into a trap with a roof when you can’t entice them in any way.

I have yet to see a raptor, which I thought was almost a staple for every newbie zone.

EDIT: it looks like you can entice the Maewings with rare flower. I’m all over that later this evening.
