Awesome job Ragan. I need to get my super Dino’s bred up and start trying the bosses. Since you have bred some Dino’s, I have one question ?

When breeding individual stat increases, does movement speed also increase. I have been levelling many stats, including movement speed, but I just noticed that the base percentage doesn’t appear to be increasing, on mutated Dino’s.

Movement speed never increases from breeding. It can be increased via imprinting though, but imprinting bonus isn’t passed on via breeding.

@Grembel let’s start anew on Genesis 2! I made it about 2 minutes this time before a level 95 pego ate me! I tried to strafe and punch it, but that didn’t go so well!

Yeah, started over fresh. Umm, I started in the NE quadrant sort of near 40,70. I plan to move soon, though. This was good to get those early levels, but iron is a bit too far away for my liking.

Lost Island free DLC coming Dec. 14, with Fjordur arriving next summer.

Fjordur is from the Valguero devs. I’ve played the mod version a fair bit, and it’s got tons of ruins and unique caves. You can also teleport to three other “realms” sorta like Gen1. One is an ascendant-fur-required-or-die-in-seconds winter biome, another is a bit like G1’s bog biome, but without the bugs or heavy green pall hanging over everything, and the third wasn’t done yet when I last played.

I am having a bit of trouble getting on track this time, but slowly working my way. That is fine as I like to earn my own advancements.

I am up to level 65 or so (super fast on this server) and have a few dinos so far; a trike, doedi, parasaur and ptera. I am trying to push in to find an anky and pick up my first predator pets, but every way I go, I encounter something I am not quite ready for. One way had a couple alpha raptors, another a pack of hyena that I don’t have much experience with, and up the mountain got chased away by a pack of 4-5 dire wolves!

I guess I will have to tame a few more trikes, doedi and maybe some wooly rhinos and venture up there and clear em out until I get something I can handle. I may try to sneak by and find an argent so I can carry some smaller predators and an anky and drop em in a taming pen to build a little army. I am used to having raptors near me and those are my start, but every raptor I find has an alpha in its pack!

The newbie quadrant does have Argents, it took me a while to find them. I think I left a trap up on the side of one of the mountains too. Stepping up to an argent would get you the ability to swipe an anky and drop it into a pre-made trap where you could more easily tame it. In the meantime, getting one of those flying squirrel looking things REALLY helps open the map up. Just note they can jump up before taking off, but only glide down. Don’t keep their glide path too narrow (keeping them up high) or they will eventually run out of forward speed and drop. There’s an angle just down from that with a decent speed and a long distance, so if you can glide and hop up on something tall, you’ll be able to jump/glide from there and cover a very good distance.

It seemed like you need to trap them, though, as they will just take off? I will look into it. Also, I am not ashamed to just fly up in the air now if I get in trouble. Ragan reminded me I had a tek suit to start with complete with rocket flying ability!

I will definitely go looking for an Argent soon. I saw one on one of my runs nearby so I have an idea where to grab one.

An easy trap for them is catching them wandering on the ground and set up 4 billboards around them, then one thatch foundation, two thatch walls going up, and as many thatch ceilings as you need to cover the area over the billboards. They jump to get away, so really you want to take away that jump ability. Even still, they typically fall with two good tranqs.

I did manage to get a quick taming trap set up with 2 behemoth gateways and a bunch of pillars to box things in and allow to escape/shoot through. I was able to get a couple Woolly Rhino, a Stego, another Trike, and a couple more Doedi.

I would like to get some breeding going, but I am trapped a little on progression without eggs, metal and many other items. I mean, I can get some metal just to keep myself in early metal tools, but any metal in any significant quantity, I don’t have yet (just using the rocks in the water so far). I don’t have any eggs yet to make an auto egg hatchery so I guess I need to grab a pack of Dilo and Dodo just to get some eggs or something.

I did have a classic ARK moment yesterday, though. I found a nice Trike out and decided to pull it to my brand new taming chamber and set it to tame quickly. What I didn’t plan on was a skeletal Trike to be hanging out near my taming structure when I pulled it in. The skelly trike agroed socially and proceeded to go wacky for the next 30 minutes. I tried multiple times to drag it far far away, and it kept coming back. Finally, I said, “screw it!”, and sent all my dinos at it to kill it. During this time, a bronto wandered into my little open wood base and proceeded to kill me, my ptera, and wrecked all my facilities in my base including my forge, S+ stations storing everything, compost bin, mortar/pestle, trough, campfires, preserving bin. What a mess! That took a bit to recover from. I then built a huge wall to keep wild dinos out!

I would really like to package everything up and move to a new place to settle, but need to build up a bit of a defense force to move, something that can handle anything I might encounter on my way.

Oh, and I am having a heck of a time finding beaver dams! I found a bunch of beavers, but chitin/cementing paste are also gating me from lots of content right now.

A true ARK story. There’s also the, “wild dino got nearby and killed everything,” that seems to happen at least once per new map. ARK is all about building an ever increasing set of walls.

Pro tip on oil: in-between areas on the East-West direction is a small space zone. You kind of swim through it when you or a dino go through there. That mini-zone changes often, you’ll see it when it looks like the entire sky is suddenly in a space warp, then stops. That’s the mini-zone changing. I don’t remember how many iterations there are but I think it’s 8 cycles. One in particular, every little asteroid in there is absolutely covered with oil rocks. You can go in there and mine enough oil to fill you and a dino up in no time, then waddle back home and you’re set for oil for quite some time. There are also cycles for obsidian, crystal, element dust, etc. Enough that, at least for me in hindsight, you might want to build a base close to that in-between asteroid zone.

Notice the middle asteroid zone but also the hallways that go to it from the top-right newbie zone:

I am doing a little better now. I finally managed to snag an Argent, luckily, and have some Trikes, Stegos, Woolly Rhinos, Tek Parasaurs and Doedi mating. Got a Nanny and Hatchery up and running along with one AC unit/generator to hatch the easy dinos. I also finally got a few raptors, and some decently high tek raptors, but they are all female so far. Once I get a little mobile pack leveled up, will move everything somewhere!

No it is not loaded. I tried to pare down the number of mods on Gen 2.

One of these times we need to online at the same time so I can give you a tribe invite. I’ve got several teleporters setup in interesting places that would help speed up map travel.

Sounds good, Ragan. I am not quite ready for teleporting around the map, but eventually that would be nice.

I finally found a nice enough place to build a more final base. This will be the first time I have actually ever completed a move from my initial location in the starter areas to a more advanced area. I want to see if I can pull it off. I settled on an elevated piece of terrain and have a metal behemoth gateway complete with a 6 wide metal ramp to the land below, and have a complete 6x8 stone building, so I am ready to start settling there.

I managed to get a pair of 170-180 or so tek raptors and a 150 argent that is working on making good babies and even managed to snag a 130 therizin, which was a first ever tame for me! I saw a Yut wandering around and have never tamed one of those either, so I am trying to do some firsts for me this time around by myself. It can be way too tempting to just get a super powered egg from one of you masters of the game!
