So far, this is better than Dishonored 2.
Hard to not get into spoilers, but it sounds like you haven’t really gotten out of the intro. How that happens, well, is part of the story, and I don’t want to spoil that. I was a bit confused at first, too, but then it unfolded pretty rapidly.
Playing on the PC so can’t help ya with the PS4 stuff, sadly. As noted above, you have to fiddle with the various sound levels (if you can on the PS4, dunno) to get it so you can actually hear what you need to. Controls on the PC are, surprisingly to me at least, pretty slick and nailed down.

Apparently you can kill mayor characters in the game and… the game continue, you must fill the void and figure for yourself what needs to be done.
Yeah, okay - time to leave this thread - some of you people are unable to stop yourself from spoiling every single damn thing that is interesting and unique about this game…
There’s actually an achievement for killing every human you can. The game tracks your karma too.
Regarding PS4, the controls are terrible. The devs know that and are working on it. Xbone and PC are both fine.
I don’t think it’s better than Dishonored 2, but that’s another case of comparing it to one of my all-time favorites-- Prey is definitely a fantastic game.
Yeah this was the case in the demo. They said they’d fix them day one, and I guess they’ve made some adjustments but people are still super unhappy with them. I’m not sure how you ship a game with subpar controls on the console with by far the largest install base, but here we are.
For now I’m waiting for a patch or two before deciding if I should get the PS4 version of the PC version for my aging desktop.
FWIW, it runs fine (for me at least) on my three or so year old i5/970 setup.
I think you’re right.
I¨am playing on the PS4. The controls feel ackward at first, and the fov level to low. But after a few hours you don’t notice anymore, and stuff like looting tables become natural and effortless. Anyway so many people comment about the controls that maybe it depend on the person.
QT3 does have spoiler tags for a reason
I think the problem is that what’s a spoiler for some isn’t for others, and so, unless you are going to put everything you say in a spoiler tag, something is going to slip through the cracks.
I mean, for most of the folks on a forum like this, the stuff that is in trailers or even previews wouldn’t be spoilers, but others (like me this time) went into this totally blind pretty much, so every thing is new. My wife, whether it’s a game, a movie, or a TV show, regards even the blurbs used to advertise the thing as spoilers.
@Razgon - I’m sorry, it just dawned on me your comment was probably directed towards me. I didn’t realize anything I asked was something people wouldn’t know within the first few minutes of playing, but as the first hour or two is a blur to me I messed this up. I spoilers out a question, was there anything else I said that should have been spoilers out?
To celebrate Prey’s release I finally installed and played Dishonored.
It was way better than Bioshock.
Nope, not directed against you. Others are making specific comments About things happening 5 hour Into the game, about abilities, npcs and so on, most of which is specifically hidden by the game itself. That is kinda disappointing in a game like this.
I do hope you get to enjoy the game, because there is a LOT to enjoy in it. Especially for someone like you, who says they loved System Shock 2, which is my all time favorite game as well!
And the DLC to Dishonored is even better than Dishonored. And Dishonored 2 is even better than DLC to Dishonored.
However, 13 hours in, as much as I am enjoying Prey, I would not place it above Dishonored 2 yet.
Despite only being on one sku and dropping 71% in sales from the previous week, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe managed to outsell Prey this week in the UK.

Though an unofficial source, Steamspy pegs Prey’s PC sales at around 110,000 owners.
Sure as hell hope those sales numbers are going to go up with more reviews and positive word of mouth.
I don’t know. Prey looks absolutely terrible on stream, the streamers just look bored, the monsters for the first third of the game seem to be nothing but black blobs, it comes off more like a retread of Dead Space in Rapture than anything especially interesting… I mean, I’m all for these types of games, but this one just doesn’t seem to grab me at all. I was excited about it until I actually watched it in motion over the course of a couple hours and various streams.
I’m just not sure sales are going to get much better, because it seems like those who wanted it have it, and nothing I’ve seen seems like its going to win over the rest. I hope I’m wrong though since I love the genre.
Is there any kind of data on, how much streaming a game drives sales? Because what you are saying sounds horrible! That means, that in this data-driven world, eventually big game companies will makes where a big criteria is, that it should be stream-friendly! A lot of genres, like Prey, would be lost in that shuffle, and we’ll have flashier games with more action that is more viewable.
I can understand that Prey seems boring to watch - its a slow game. I remember Jakob Stegelmann, a tv legend in Danish Television called System Shock for “Thinking mans Doom game”, since it was a slower, more thoughtful game.
I often go back to the same places, and find new minor stuff I missed the first time around. I read a ton of emails, read notes and so on, none of which makes for good television I’m sure.
Yea.
I watched 4 streamers:
- 3 where in the same exact spot in the game (the hardware section). 1 where much more advanced.
- 1 guy was atrocious bad at the game, like… he did not figure out how to use the Gloo weapon to build stair or how to use explosive cannels to move away stuff that he can’t move by hand
The game give a lot of freedom to streamers, and they don’t know what to do with it. And is a hard game. Hard not in the “staying alive” kind of way, but hard in other more immaterial ways.
It was boring to watch, and I stopped it.
Then, I proceed to thrown literally everything at some telepath to kill him. I imagine somebody watching me play would be bored to tears.
I imagine a speedrun of this game could be cool, because things most people has figure yet but are super obvious and clever like SPOILERturn into a coffe cup to enter trough small leaks in walls and doorsSPOILER.
TL:DR modern gamers don’t have much experience with the raw feel of something like Prey.
