Seconded! Does this kind of stuff work in the scenario editor or is it contained in the premade missions somehow?
It works in the scenario editor, and it does have a few sp/mp missions for the rest of people who doesn’t use the editor.

Oh, looks like it needs OA. Bummer.

Get OA. It is totally worth it.

Can you elaborate? I fire up ArmA only rarely, and it’s mainly to dick around in the scenario editor making simple A <-> B matchups of combined arms. The campaign’s too much for me (not to mention that first city kills my PC), and I don’t have time for MP. What does OA add? I read over the features but I don’t really see any must-haves.
'course this mod certainly feels like a must have …
OA is more a “must have” than this mod. Maybe if you are a ww2 nuts i would understand…

It’s not just what OA adds, but the things it fills in and fixes. Honestly I couldn’t imagine designing scenarios without it and all the content it builds upon. Everything of value uses it and it’s reasonably priced. As naeblis said - it’s a must have, not just a new campaign and a couple of units.
Stolen from gaf! :P Invasion 1944 screens.

See and you wonder how that is more of a must have… :P
I was in that server yesterday, maybe i am one of the soldiers seen in the video :P

Was that against human or AI? The tanks didn’t seem that bright so I expect the latter :)
AI, it was a coop mission.

40 bucks is too much for a toy :P I’ll wait for the inevitable Steam sale, but I’ll definitely add it to my wishlist with yours and Naeblis’ endorsement!

I’m starting to learn the level editor, and am trying to set up some randomized missions to play for myself. I have a few questions:
Can you select a group of units and assign them all a probability of appearance and radius of appearance? Can I also select a group and give them a common waypoint?
How do I give myself support (artillery, air support, etc)?
I tried to use the ambient combat module (I think that’s what it’s called), and I synched it with my player character… yet I never see any ambient combat. How does this work?
Are there any other good modules I should be using to set up compelling randomized combat stuff, other than the seccom module? Is there a way to modify the seccom module to put larger or smaller defending forces on the generated missions?
Thanks-

I’m no expert (not yet) but I’ll answer.
Can you select a group of units and assign them all a probability of appearance and radius of appearance? Can I also select a group and give them a common waypoint?
You give the group leader the probabilities and make sure everyone else in the group is in formation. They’ll appear where the leader does. Groups use their own waypoints, but you can synchronize waypoints so that groups will wait for each other. Select synchro mode and connect the waypoints.
How do I give myself support (artillery, air support, etc)?
There’s a number of ways to do artillery ranging from quick and easy to more complex. This wiki page gives a good overview
I tried to use the ambient combat module (I think that’s what it’s called), and I synched it with my player character… yet I never see any ambient combat. How does this work?
Ambient combat is not instantaneous. It’s intended to be incidental to whatever is already scripted. If you want more chances of ambient combat occurring then create more groups and attach ambient combat modules to each of them.
Are there any other good modules I should be using to set up compelling randomized combat stuff, other than the seccom module? Is there a way to modify the seccom module to put larger or smaller defending forces on the generated missions?
Altering SecOps takes some scripting I believe. I’m not sure, I haven’t done it. I don’t know if their are just some values you can change for that.
If you’re just screwing around with the editor and not trying to make your own random engagement mission, there are some random missions already out there like Takistan Force.
Really having problems piloting choppers with my X-45. Feels like it would be easier returning to keyboard/mouse for it.

It is sometimes. When I get my OS re-re-reinstalled and get my games reinstalled I’ll load up and post a profile that might work for you. The thing to remember is there’s a bit of power/altitude loss that is not normal in helo flight. It’s better now than it was when ArmA2 first came out, but it’s still there. So when you’re flying with the stick it feels a bit “off” from flying a real helo.
Here’s a few threadsthat may help in the meantime. I kown you have the X45, but this is similar enough to be useful.

So, if I create a group of say 5 M1s, have them all grouped to a single leader, they will use the single leader’s probability chance? Ok that’s much easier.
Also, Takistan Force looks really cool. How do I install it? The archive has 4 .7z files in it. Do I extract all of those directly to my Arrowhead folder?
It also mentions that I may need:
- Advanced Combat Environment 2 - Core (optional)
- Advanced Combat Environment 2 - eXtras (optional)
Are those required to get the random patrols and combats to occur that the mod mentions it has?
Sorry, I’m a complete noob when it comes to Arma2 and it’s mods/tools.
