If it’s not possible then it’s going to be a major flop on the console market.
ArmA + console market = head asplode.
I didn’t notice that the site does indeed mention next-gen console. Considering the 360 and PS3 are this-gen now, I don’t think that’s happening anytime soon :P Especially since it’s still TBD. Hm.
They’ve been saying PS3 for a long time now. Also pretty much every site that covers PS3 has some mention of ArmA 2. I will be really surprised if it doesn’t come out on PS3/360.
…And new video, this time from the pro-russian faction

Switching to another game, a few real screenshots of Operation Flashpoint 2 are released:
Mmm… i am not liking it a lot. Obviously there is a loss of quality between the first “target-render”/pseudo-screnshots seen and this, but even forgetting that…
The lightning is spectacular but a bit fake, the screenshoots reeks of postprocess, real time or otherwise (too much constrast and saturation). And the grass is horrible!
It still could be a great game, of course. Who knows how much (or how little) consolized will be the game.
And more Operation Flashpoint 2. Damn i should change the tittle of the thread again XD. This time, a “pre-alpha” video!
The Flashpoint 2 stuff looks great! I really hope both these games deliver.
Ok, i had to dinner so i didn’t see the video before. Now i have seen it.
Daaamn!
Goddamnit Bohemia, i don’t want to upgrade again my computer! I won’t move that with my actual computer.

The links says it all. It seems that they captured the screenshots this week, so they are from the most recent build, actual stuff from the game.

This looks like the type of game I’d really like to play. I just hope it’s barely compelling enough offline because serious multiplayer is still too much to ask right now.
I hope the campaign is better this time, because apart from being interested in single player, a solid campagin also serves to make a strong folowing of the game and increase the word of mouth, which benefits the player count in multi.
God, the trees and plants STILL LOOK THE SAME AS IN OFP! They just happen to have more sides this time, but they still look like something out of 1995.
Interface screens plz.
The same? I think you should play Ofp again ;)
Also, this is the tree generation tool used in the game, developed also by Bohemia
Haha, look at what i found!
Operation Flashpoint, the official trailer
The most interface-like screen i have seen are this:
I want to have sex with this game!
For a while I was thinking Arma 2 and OF2 are the same game but apparently they are not. So which is going to be better I wonder? For a fan of the genre, I guess the competition is a win/win situation.
Bohemia Interactive Studios (BIS) developed Operation Flashpoint (OFP) and Codemasters (CM) published it. Eventually, the two went their separate ways. CM kept the “Operation Flashpoint” name, but little else.
BIS went into the military training sim business with Virtual Battlespace (VBS), which was basically OFP stripped of it’s “gamey” features and tweaked to simulate specific training scenarios. It’s in use by military forces in several countries (it’s also commercially available, hugely expensive and not really designed to be played as a game), and VBS2 is underway (if it hasn’t already been released, I can’t remember).
For their game business, BIS decided early on to develop an incremental development of OFP1 which became Armed Assault (ArmA), while simultaneously working on “Game 2” which would be an all-new game. This “Game 2” is what is now known as ArmA 2.
Meanwhile, Codemasters scratched their heads, trying to figure out what to do with the Operation Flashpoint brand. They eventually decided to create their own game, Operation Flashpoint 2. BTW, it has recently been renamed Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, dropping the “2” from the name. Apart from the name and the basic concept (large scale realistic FPS with driveable vehicles) there’s really no connection with OFP1 or BIS.
As for which will be the better game? No idea. Tis is pure guesswork, but I suspect OFP2, excuse me “OFP:DR”, will be the smoother, more slick gaming experience with emphasis on the individual soldier experience. ArmA2 will be more “simulation-ish”, paying more attention to the larger battle picture, but likely also a bit more finicky and with a steeper learning curve, though hopefully with a more user friendly interface than the horribly clunky one from OFP1. And I agree it’s probably a win/win situation for us gamers.
