Real men only play co-op ArmA 2. It’s absolutely the best venue for the mechanics and antics.

Arma 2 did have character IMHO. OFDR had no flavor at all except the excellent menu soundtrack and the intro that they ripped off from The Kingdom.

Hm. I can’t help but feel like this new desert environment will not be nearly as fun for infantry as the first game… too much empty space, lack of cover and vegetation… and vehicle combat (other than choppers) in Arma2 isn’t nearly as fun.

There are wooded areas of Pakista… err I mean Takistan. This was confirmed by the dev’s as some had this same concern in the official forums. I can only hope that people will port the default Arma2 stuff over to the expansion like they did with Arma1.

The map used in that video is the third one, “Desert”, which is not a “real” map, it’s just a even flat surface with a desert texture, used for testing purposes. The real maps are the other two.

But yes, it’s going to be another type of experience for the infantry. Engagement in longer range, more careful movement, cover > concealment, more focus on vehicles (which btw have upgrades like flares, damage by systems, flir, laser rangefinders, a basic FCS, and RWR).

So vehicles wont be destroyed by some guy with a pistol? that’s great!

I’m confused every time I get in a humvee in arma2 and die in 4 seconds when some dude in a field a mile away opens up on it. I saw Black Hawk Down! You need at least a thousand dudes with AK’s hanging out of windows twenty meters away to slow one down, and even then!

You need to lower the AI accuracy (yep, it can be done) if you want to replicate the BHD experience ;)

Really dig features like this. Hope they keep working to improve the editor.

Slightly off topic, but my friends and I play arma 1 warfare co-op against the AI a lot and it’s serviceable. Is there a warfare mod for Arma 2 that can have the OPFOR controlled by AI that most people use or do most probably use the standard version (or only play against human opponents)?

Yeah, i think there are missions like the one you want.
Look in armaholic.com for Arma2 warfare, “Benny edition” or “Oden Warfare”. And there are more version.

With the work on the new game, I can’t believe they’re putting time into new beta patches. Read the thread before deciding if you want to go with this patch. Great for some people, not for others - looks toe dependant on the hardware/drivers a person is running.

I feel like I’ll once again get suckered into buying a ArmA product, then be disappointed when the most basic infantry tactics don’t work against the AI and the multiplayer is too laggy to bother.

Considering I’ve seen plenty of fraps videos with zero lag I’d have to guess some of this might be based on your connection, computer specs, and choice of server.
I manually modified the AI accuracy down to .40 and it still eats me for breakfast considering they use better infantry tactics then I do. Do you use any mods?
