People can write questions up to May 15th, they will answer them in May 30th.

Meanwhile, they already have posted some “A2OA Facts And Figures”. Some interesting things. New to me (or perhaps interesting enough to cite) :

-IR strobes
-Reworked ui/hud (uh? it looks the same en sshots)
-backpacks can carry things like static weapons (mortars) and uav terminals
-helmet-mounted displays
-Improved weapon (multiple optics modes, range finders, step based zoom)
-Only 15 brand new weapons. What?? I supposed we would have a few dozens more!
-35 brand new vehicles, not counting the old ones reworked.
-new effects: shaking camera, SSAO
-integrated mod management (???)
-whispered version of voice comms

About the whole “what happens if you have both games”:

A2OA can also use the full content of ARMA 2 (if installed) to create an unsurpassed scale of modern military simulation.

* Maps of Chernarus and Takistan (5 maps in total) with their typical local civilian population - 440 square km, 80 cities and villages, 550 kms of roads
* 9 different army factions: US Army, US Marines, Russian Army, Takistani Army and militia, Chernarussian Defense Forces, Chernarussian insurgents and partisans, Takistani Guerrillas
* 150+ different weapons
* 100+ different vehicles

Will it be possible to use the original ARMA 2 content combined with new OA content?
* Yes. Users that already have ARMA 2 installed will be offered an option to install OA into it and run it as a combined, never seen before size and experience.

Coop in campaign will be a bit different

Will it be possible to play the campaign in multiplayer?

Of course. The four main characters are all present and can be played for in all campaign scenarios. The nature of cooperation will be different from ARMA 2, as the players aren’t part of the same groups. The scenarios are designed in a way which allows players to support each other’s advancement in the battle, and some story-related parts are simplified for the multiplayer, so that group of players can fully focus on the cooperative action.

DLC. Well, if they have the game opened to modding, whatever, they can make DLC and trying to win some extra $.

This time, we also have plan to release some significant DLC for OA, more details about these plans will be revealed later.

And they use a really horrible invented word: “Armaversum”. Ugh.

Also, they are making new builds of the beta, it seems they are working in optimization changes, i suspect the code they are testing with the betas will be both for arma 2 1.06 version and OA.

I cant wait to get my grubby little paws on this. And i should be getting into that whole team based MP thing some ;-)

New video

That dude does not know how to properly drive an apache. Slashing attacks are more a Hind’s game. He should stand off, pop up and down behind a ridge.

Game looks slick, but were those stutters i saw youtube artifacts or the games’ ?

The guy who posted it said “Sorry for these flickering textures at beginning and fps drops but Fraps screw this by half”.

It’s pretty clear he’s not flying, it’s the AI (he’s gunning), though I think he has it set so he can switch between gunner and pilot. Of course a human pilot would simply stay at long range.

Yeah, video recording with software in real time takes up a big hit in any computer, and the game already is demanding. Taking both things in mind, the video is pretty smooth.

Computer used in the last video:
AMD X2 3800+/OC 4600+
2 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4870
Windows XP

You need a OCed Core i7 with 4GB of RAM if you want to record with FRAPS at 720p, and even then your fps will take a hit.

EDIT: The game itself shown in the last videos, well… more of the same :).
It’s called Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead, not Arma 3, no one should fool themselves with that. Some improvements here and there, but it clearly an expansion, just with a few more new art assets than usual (new scenarios, new visual theme, new campaign).
A bit like the fps equivalent of CoH Opossing Front, another “expandalone”.

Demo announced as “soon” in the official site. But i wouldn’t hold my breath.

Coming back to the normal Arma 2, we have a new infantry campaign

and a very cool video

LOL at Bohemia trying to make a BF/COD-like game with in multiplayer (choosing class and map in the respawn interface)

Wow at graphics!

Oh wait…

edit: video-aar from my favorite server, Kellys Heroes
http://www.kellys-heroes.eu/files/ARMA2/vids/

I just bought this the other day and fired up the campaign and the realized that the one of captains in the campaign was being voiced by a friend of mine. I am gong to be teasing him a lot now as he’s got some corny lines. I hadn’t really thought that Bohemia Interactive meant it was from the Czech Republic. A pleasant surprise.

You should tease him ALOT. The voice acting is embarrassing. I realize video game standards are not high but damn…

It is also set here, basically

When a ‘Chenarus’ soldier got shot and shouted “kurva!” as he died at the beginning of the campaign I had my suspicions. ;)

Can’t wait!

Would it be OK to ask a few basic questions here about Arma, or leave it to just promotional stuff? Also Naeblis, if I’m reading that right… we will be able to play all the single player missioms AND the full campaign from ArmA2 in the expansion with all the added goodies (that are applicable) and the streamlined engine?

Uh… i don’t think there will be added goodies in the previous content. The previous content (missions, campaigns) will run in Arma 2 OA, but it’t not like they are going to retro-modify that content to include new vehicles, weapons with FLIR, replace the voices, etc, in the old campaign. Though some fans could make a “mix”.

The benefit of running old content in OA will be using the upgraded engine, with better framerate optimization, less problematic AI, improvement in the 3D sound engine, etc. Things that comes from the engine, and aren’t art assets (sound, music, texture, models, scenario, etc). But that advantages will also come in the future 1.06 version of Arma 2, the new code will be ported back to the original game, at least the optimization in AI and the framerate.

OK, hope you all don’t mind but I have a dumb question. It seems once in a while playing one of my custom missinos I can plot waypoints into the map to move a tank or helo… but more often than not I can’t. Should I always be able to do this? Also, if I need to take command because the AI won’t move forces - how can I do this if I only made a low level grunts playable?

http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?f=93 because i have no idea how to help you jpinard.

Are the soldiers inside the tank or helo in your squad? Or is their own squad under your command with a High Command module? That’s the two ways of controlling a vehicle with the maps i know of.

Level of campaign shown in the preview.

edit: omg, there is “man the turret” section, is this CoD? XD XD
