I didn’t want to watch the whole thing and spoil the capmaign, what do you mean by “man the turret section”?

“yea, let’s get going, we got asses to kick.”

I wonder, are there two different voices for the player character? the bassy dude from the main game and the new english sounding one? whats up with that?

jpinard: I don’t if it was the correct english term, but it’s when you are ordered to operate a “turret”, a fixed weapon, like a MG or a A/A or A/T weapon. Usually lots of enemies happen to appear just in time when you enter in and control the weapon. I think every CoD game have one (or two) sections like that. MW2 have four: a MG in the first Middle East level in a humvee, another MG in a BH in an american level, firing a sniper rifle from a Little Bird in the beginning of the gulag level and a fixed sniper rifle in the Whiskey Hotel level, though i am stretching a bit the definition with the last two cases.

schurem: The bassy dude voice actor from Arma 2 seems to work again with Bohemia in this game, which is not very realistic (it’s not supposed to be the same soldier from Arma 2) but whatever. But there are 3 more different characters to take their role in the campaign, a tank commander, a specOps, and a pilot.

AAN post some fake news

http://www.aan-online.com/en/europe/23-chernarus-firms-strike-uneasy-deal-in-takistan.html

The important thing, new images used in these “news” (as always, images are ingamel but they used the supersampling option, called “3d resolution” ingame, making a 2560x1200 image or something like that, and then resized it to a much smaller res)

goddamn i need a new graphics board soon :/ that shit looks sierra hotel!

No wonder my game doesn’t look half as good as their pics.

Arma 2: OA is Gold

Where to buy it (it seems it will be in Steam, there is a text for a link greyed right now)

Digital Download, a bit expensive

Also they have released the 54th beta patch.

I have a huge spreadsheet of test results and each time I’m about to post they release yet another beta. They’re the fastest developers I’ve ever known.

Does this mean Steam users will finally get that patch?

Steam users can use the beta patch. The last major patch kind of let you decouple it from Steam.

Kind of?

They didn’t push a Steam version of 1.05. But 1.05 removed the DRM and can be installed on top of the Steam version.

And physical distribution win against digital distribution.

22.49€ a boxed copy (paying shipping costs, the cut of the retailer, the box and dvd itself, etc) vs 30€ from sprocket.

I only discovered this game a couple of days ago and after playing the demo for a bit I went ahead and purchased it on Steam. I was a huge fan of the first Ghost Recon and haven’t found a shooter since that has hooked me the way that it did – perhaps until now.

I’m working my way through the campaign (I’m on the Manhattan mission) and having a grand time with it. Haven’t encountered much in the way of major bugs yet – just a few odd quirks here and there.

Anyone still playing this online? I figure I will want to get some multiplayer action in after I’m done with the campaign.

Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead Community FAQ - Answers

Q:Are there any plans to rework insane ugly animation system (connection to physics?) and more realistic weapon handling (e.g. movements, realistic hold)?

A:Yes, there are various plans in our insane ugly heads. However, a chief concern is the amount of work involved. Creating movements or animations for all available weapons in game (~300 in the combined product) would be gigantic task, and we seek to properly prioritise tasks on an effort-benefit basis.

lol : ))

Yeah that FAQ was great, you always see that when insensitive anonymous consumers interact with developers directly.

One of the things I was most looking forward to when I got my new computer this week was to finally be able to play ARMA 2. I loaded it up, and it STILL runs like shit.

I’m able to play Crysis Warhead at 1680x1050 with all settings at Gamer at about 30-40fps. Call of Pripyat as well, almost all bells and whistles on at a good steady framerate.

ARMA 2, on the other hand, runs at about 10 FPS. What is the deal with that? Does anyone have any tips to make this thing run better?

My system:
i5 Quad 750 2.66
4 gig RAM
Win7 64bit
9800GT 512meg

Granted, my video card isn’t the best, but it can handle some pretty insane DX10 thrown at it given my processor.

I have all settings in ARMA 2 at normal, except post processing is at low, and visual range is at about half. Resolution is 1680x1050.
