Anti-aliasing is the killer for Arma 2. You should probably turn it off, and you’d be able to boost everything else.
I would try view range about 2.4km and no AA. But it is strange, I think it should be faster even like this…
I tested this exact settings, and I get 25-35 fps
After I dropped viewrange to 2.4km I get 40+
c2d 3.0ghz
2giga ram
gtx280
xp sp3 32bit
I think I posted way earlier in the thread some various things you can lower that don’t affect the graphics too much. I believe it was Paul who had a different set with about the same performance results. Unfortunately it’s one of those games where they give you options but don’t balance them on the low-normal-high scale very well.

Naeblis - Is it just me, or does that picture look like it was taken at a higher height than we can currently distinguish features at?
Now that you mention it… yeah, may be the did something with the LoD.
Also, it may be done with the distance view put to the max, 10 kms. As it doesn’t affect only at what distance the fog appears, it also have some influence in the distance in the level of detail (distance at which different models are swapped)
As always, their pictures are pretty but we aren’t seeing the framerate.
New beta 71548 contains some improvements in RAM management and some preparations for the next step, which will be enabling* the application as LARGEADDRESSAWARE (running as LARGEADDRESSAWARE should fix the out of memory issues on 64b systems).
*: next week, if everything works.
So, more perfomance improvements if you have the ram and a 64 bits system.
There are already people praising the changes. i.e: “All the LOD switching//popping/stuttering in the large cities has completely stopped for me now”.
A 17 minute video from the first? mission of the campaign.
edit: see?? Even new people can play the game. At least the guy playing in the video seemed new, he didn’t learn the zoom function (hold right button) until the middle of the video, he didn’t reload his gun on time, and he didn’t know how to jump the small obstacles. Even with these handicaps, he did ok.
Looks good! Can’t wait to get my hands on this.
I’ve been playing player made campaigns and missions lately and having a good time with it. I still haven’t touched the multiplayer component.

This thread popping back up, got me to finally want give this a go. I played the original OPF back when it came it out and had fun. The editor back then was a real pain. It looks like the new stuff is nice. So they have a combined operations package coming out on the 29th with both ArmA II and Op Arrowhead? I was tempted to go grab ArmA II from Best Buy where it is cheaper than Steam, but since the combined package appears to be coming out in a week I am forcing myself to wait. :(
Yeah, Combined Operations is $49 USD and OA is $39 USD alone. So unless you can find Arma II for less than 10 bucks (or don’t care)…
Given the same goofy voice over, rock soundtrack, and helicopter landing, I’m betting that will the mission for the demo!
First review from Arma 2 OA, in french magazine Canard PC nº 215, score 8/10.
Did they say why it didn’t get a higher score?
I don’t have the magazine.
I asked about the content of the review in the OA thread where i saw the score, in the Bohemia forum, but he still hasn’t answered.
My review in PC Gamer should be out in the wild this week, too.
Don’t tease us. Good, bad… what.
Oh yeah I almost forgot that review is this month. Haven’t read it yet, but I noticed it’s one of the first to take advantage of the new PCG US policy that allows editor’s choice awards for games scoring lower than 90.
Back in the day, like mid-to-late 1990s, editor’s choice was 88% or above…
Got my PC Gamer today. Great review Evan. He said it was a superb game all around. Points got knocked off for single digit performance in Takistani, bugginess, and unfinished items.
I have a feeling BIS just decided to stick with the launch date no matter what the build status and powering through while dialing in performance. The real finished game won’t be seen for a few weeks. No big deal for me, I epxected that.
