From what I read it sounded like they were going to skip having 1.05 on Steam and go to the next patch.

You could use the 1.05 patch on the Steam version.

but steam didnt push the 1.05 patch. which was odd. but whatever. why is the new expansion thinger not on steam yet?

It is up there, just can’t buy it yet. I would post a link but I do not have the required number of posts. Search for Operation Arrowhead.

BTW, they didn’t push the 1.05 Patch to Steam due to the size of the patch. Steam doesn’t support delta patching so all modified files need to be fully downloaded. I read somewhere that the patch would have been gigs in size.

Basically you would have to download the entire game again.

Yep, I might stick with the patches directly distributed by BIS. I have auto-update turned off so it shouldn’t be a problem.

Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead in Steam. No price still. http://store.steampowered.com/app/33930/

82% score in Pc Gamer (USA).

Just came here to post about how absolutely ridiculously large the patch that steam is downloading for ARMA 2 is - 7.4 gigs.

I’m assuming at this point they’re just making me redownload the entire patched game again, as was suggested above.

They knew Steam was going to download almost the full game in the update, and that’s why the update was delayed for months waiting until the new version (1.07), so people didn’t have to download the game twice (once for the 1.05 version, and another more for the 1.07).

1.07 may be the last “big” patch for Arma 2, in fact it may be the last patch for the game. If there are more patches in the future, they surely will be small bug-fixing affairs, which should be done with a new .exe, without need of updating the data files.

edit: More OA scores, 7/10 in eurogamer.dk , 8.5/10 in meristation.com

Went ahead and ordered Combined Ops through Sprocket. Slowwwly downloading Arma2 at the moment. I am guessing the eta listed doesn’t include OA since it has a different download link. EU Mirror seems to be the fastest by quite a bit at the moment.

Has anyone ever played in the Charlie Foxtrot campaign, cfarma2.com?

I am reading Steam thing is really a problem because the damn program will update the game even if you have set up the Arma 2 propierties to “don’t auto update this game”. Great, ignoring their own settings.

edit: It seems they physical version of Oa is different from the digital version of the game, digital version number is higher. I suppose they will release a patch soon to have the same version across all the media. Also, bit tech review

Yeah, I got nailed by this bug. I had installed patch 1.07 manually myself and I’m positive I had Steam configured not to update the game but Steam ended up downloading 7.5 gigs last night.

Operation Arrowhead and Combined Operations are available for sale on Steam now for anyone that wants to buy them there. Combined Operations doesn’t show up in search, but you can get to it’s page from the Operation Arrowhead page.

Ah, so Operation Arrowhead is completely stand alone? Damn, I should have jumped on that GamersGate $25 deal last week then. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to use my Steam ARMAII with it, but now I guess it doesn’t make a difference.

I guess it will also be another massive download through Steam. Anyone know the size of Arrowhead?

Not sure about Steam, but the download for it through Sprocket is 9-10GB.

-Yeah, OA is standalone.

-Steam have the original Arma 2 for 15 €/$ today.

-New update, for OA. Just for the people who bought the physical version, the digital version is more recent.

It’s a stand alone, but if you have ArmaII, then it will supposedly combine into one big game. You can use the new assets (like new units and map) in the base game.

Arma 2 OA in the first place of Steam top sellers! Niiice.
(well, for now, this isn’t a game which is going to stay there for days)

fake edit: And it’s there beating 6 games in the special sale from today. And the next game is Arma 2 Combined Operations XD.

So, is OA any good?

Yes, but it has a few teething pains which will be ironed out soon. Overall its pretty solid and quite awesome. Night fighting has never been more fun.
