Rockets are indeed best used in slashing attacks, not from a hover. Drive in, lay waste, tuck tail and run. Hind was built for this kind of work. Has anybody made the newfangled laser guided FFAR rockets yet for ArmA2? if not, someone should do so asap.

Thanks for the tips! I finally managed to destroy a convoy in the campaign mission with the AH-64, then I did the UAV part, which is awesome. It’s a shame you can’t switch to the gunner seat while hovering (at least I couldn’t find how).

Well, someone could make a mission where you can switch seats, it’s a mission based setting. But, are you sure it would be easier to fire the rockets from the gunner position?? Remember that from the gunner seat you couldn’t aim them, as you can’t move the helicopter!
Now, on the other hand, it’s really sweet to use the cannon from the gunner position. :)

Yeah I meant for the cannon :). I switch to manual fire when using rockets as a pilot anyways.

Attack choppers are great fun in multiplay. Especially if the pilot can actually fly, its a really great thrill ride for the gunner.

Curses. I’ve never, ever, been able to get into Arma2. It really should be the perfect FPS for me but I just can’t find the “fun” in it, but this thread is making me contemplate getting OA for some reason.

Blarg. Must. Resist.

Arg… Razor Two is completely broken. Every time we capture the target (not kill), the mission ends with a failure… what the hell? We’ve captured him at the electric plant, on the road with a roadblock and at the rock quarry on the coast… every time it just fades to black and mission select, without unlocking the next one.

I thought they were going to add the TrackIR HUD aiming in the Apache and other helicopters for the cannon.

Maybe I remembered it wrong and it was someone mentioning that the feature wouldn’t be included like it is in the helicopter sims.

Is TrackIR actually worth getting? Seemed really overpriced, can you just achieve the same with a web camera?

@Tim James: They said they were going to implement HUD (in pilot’s helmet), and they did it, but it’s not functional as a fire acquisition system as in RL. Well, i think, i don’t have TrackIR to try it.

@Anti-Bunny: Search info about Freetrack.

TrackIR is worth it if you use it for other sims than just ArmA2. It boosts the immersion factor for flight and driving simulations to no end, and this is true for the flying and driving parts in ArmA as well. On foot you can use it to glance around and have a more natural way of controlling zoom and lean (you lean into the screen to zoom, how about that!)

There’s Free Track which is a do it yourself alternative to Track IR. I myself have a Track IR unit but I’ve read on forums by those who went the Free Track route and they seem to be satisfied with it.

I used Freetrack for awhile but have found TrackIR is entirely better. Smoother, more responsive, easier to set up, more options etc.

Once I get a transport heli to pick me up, how do I then tell it to go somewhere?

Select the transport with the appropriate key (F1 etc) and change to the map mode. From there you just need to click on your destination.

All the “move to” options are greyed out, not matter which function key I use.

This is when you call in a transport helicopter, have your entire team board. There are already some guys flying the chopper when it arrives. I’m sitting in back manning a gun, and there is no way to tell the chopper to fly anywhere, it just sits on the ground.

Is this the original campaign? What mission are you on?

If its the original campaign you have to use your radio on the map to sent it somewhere.

It’s the original campaign. It’s the first “open ended” mission, where you’re looking for some head honchos, and they give you 3 x’s on the map to investigate. I drove my humvee to all 3, and all three didn’t have the guys in them.

No idea what to do now, so I called in the transport heli and boarded it. How do you “use the radio on the map” to get it to move? Is the radio that green thing with the LCD display with the numbers on it?

When they ask you to where to go, open the map (m) and click wherever. Well, i would choose a clear, even area. XD
