We got 5 runes and I took the Templar. Eels!
Haha I meant Eeks but will leave Eels.
Dave drew 5 apps. He’ll have at least 3 runes next hand, and possibly 5.
Another Mystic?
Forgive the lack of screenshot. Just busy today. As in at a boardgame fest.
Ouch. Clearly we’re in quite a bit of trouble now. Knowing Dave, he’ll be going for the Delver next turn, so what do we do this turn? Right now Dave has a Matron, Templar and Stalker, along with the usual starting turds, while we have a Scryer, Mystic, and the usual turds. We have a couple of options
- Stay patient, go with a mystic, and hope we can win the race to Cetra.
- Go lifebound, hope we can transform the disciple, and then somehow beat Dave to Cetra.
- Go with the deathdealer and start building up power in hopes that the board turns red.
I’m guessing most of the hive will go with 1, but I’d actually vote for 2. We’re in a fairly substantial catchup position, and we need some luck to go our way to realistically have a shot at beating Dave. I’d use one rune to buy the Disciple first, and then see what flips up before deciding what to do with our next four runes. If an Animus, Seer, Wildgear Druid, Shaman, or another Disciple shows up, I’d definitely get that next. If not, I’d probably go with the Everbloom. I’m not sure if that’s statistically the best play, but statistically speaking, we’re gonna lose, so we might as well try for the home run (also, I understand that if we draw both lifebounds together next cycle, or even separate, the chances of us getting Cetra in that cycle are close to 0, but finding ways to build up our honor pool while getting runes (or more honor via everbloom) at least gives us a buffer to work with). If a deathbound druid shows up, we should probably take that as well, just so Dave doesn’t get it. If another good faction card comes up, we can discuss when we see it.
Efff Dave and his bukake-ing on probability hahahaha. So Ironcub, and the rest of the gang, what do we do? MicroAd brings up some good points. Not a big fan of 3, and I guess I’d have to think about 1 and 2 on my drive home from work. Right now, I’m hoping we don’t draw the scryer next turn, but get it the turn after. Hopefully that gives us a shot to get 7 runes. Ugh, this sucks.
Annie said this would work out and she was right. Best brain augmentation ever.
I do believe Dave was more than a coin flip likely to draw 5 runes before us, so I think it was a wise enough gamble on his part. I would probably go with another option that MicroAdayu didn’t offer, which is to take the Nightmare Delver. It’s better for us than a Mystic because it gives us two factions to possibly unite. It’s much better for Dave than a Mystic because it works so well with the cards he already has. I don’t particularly want him to have it. It leaves a chance for something even better to be revealed for Dave, but I’m not super concerned about it. We’re behind right now, but not enough that we need to start swinging for the fences and clogging up our deck with uninspiring Lifebound cards that may never pan out. We still have an OK shot at winning the Cetra sweepstakes, as our deck is a bit faster than Dave’s.
I agree with Delirium. We can’t get 7 runes with any combination of cards currently in our hand. We need more buying power. The Lifebound combo available doesn’t change that until and unless the Disciple of Cetra gets transformed, which will take at least two rounds if we’re extremely lucky, but probably more.
The Delver is a better choice than my suggestion of Mystic, for the reasons Delirium elaborates.
We wipe the bukkakke off of our faces and soldier on with a Delver, only because it’s another goddamn Mech hero for Bonnie and Clyde over there to unite with.
I would definitely still maintain that Bonnie and Clyde actually gave us a better chance of overcoming first turn advantage by not taking a R2 Templar for a R3/4 shot at Cetra. We are definitely still in this game more so than with the Stalker ourselves in R2.
Yeah, I tend to despair fairly early in games but Hive Mind games seem to jump the gun on that front. :)
Yes, you’re unruffled. Unflappable, really. Effing serene. You buy 12 Mystics while Rome burns. You’re like Cary Grant. Or George Clooney. With poopy pants.
A very astute point, delirium. I forgot about the delvers ability to unite with the matron. Skieblade, if we draw the scryer this turn, we will be able to draw our deck and have it available for the next cycle. Let’s hope we can draw it two turns in a row.
Delver taken.
Here I would likely either take Disciple of Oziah (to unite with Scryer) or Disciple of Cetra to keep Dave from having it. Rather than burn our rune.
If our goal is to get cetra, I’d burn the remaining rune.
To add to ironcub’s point, and I can’t quantify this in any way, but although Dave had a greater than 50% chance of getting the Templar after the stalker, I’d argue making that play (stalker first, then Templar) actually decreased his chances of winning when compared to getting the Templar first. By getting the stalker, then the Templar, his chance of winning went up incrementally, but if he didn’t get 5 runes and we got the Templar the turn after, our chances of winning would have gone up dramatically. It’s a bit paradoxical that setting up your next turn with a play that has a higher than 50% chance of happening actually decreases your chance of winning, but I believe it to be the case. I hope I don’t sound like a lunatic or something with these crazy theories lmao
All yall are like Templar worshippers or smth!
I’ll be honest I have no fucking clue what you guys are talking about when you say Dave has a less chance of winning for not taking the Templar. He got the Templar and he got another card that may or may not trim his deck in the future. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
What I was saying earlier was that Dave missed the chance to finish off the game in R3/4 by getting Cetra, if he took Templar in R2 and was able to unite it with Matron in R3/4. GG for sure if he pulled that.
But I’ll give credit to the Stalker in R2 if he and Annie said “the Hive aint getting Cetra in R3/4 because they took a Scryer and only 1 Mystic.” If they said that, knowing we can only generate a max of 6 runes in R3/4, and went with the Stalker in R2 because of that, then I’d give them props.
Looking at the text msgs between Bonnie and Clyde, however, they only mention that we cannot get Canon Templar in R2 with our 4/4 split, and make no mention of the fact that our R1 Scryer limited us to a max of 6 runes for R3/4. So, that means no props from iron :-p
After 4 rounds of play, would you rather have Matron, Templar and Cetra; or Matron, Stalker and Templar?
We should just get Mystics or equivalent and go for Cetra, otherwise, the game is nearly over. Burn the remaining rune.
