It worries me how often Scott is online when I take these shots.
Am in consultation with the APBA over what to do.

Bah, completely forgot to log in the last few days. Hooray, Cetra is gone. Our deck is starting to take shape, and we do have the “advantage” of going last now. Interesting to see if Dave will take the Delver or Noble. Looking at his graph, chances are he’ll take the Delver - hopefully he flips something nice up for us (another scripture would be epic hahaha!)
Welcome back, S!
The Annie Peeps Brain Augmentation actually started to smoke while we debated whether to take the void card. But we finally decided to rest on our slight edge in buying and strengthen our power, while also complementing our Void faction.
Monster revealed, so that’s good for us!
Oh, also took the Disciple at far right, first.
Dave’s move, with log exposed:
Our current deck, exposed:
Our current discard pile:
And our choices:
I would buy the hell out of Deathbound Druid, because:
- May help activate D of C
- Will unite with Everbloom
- Scores honor
- Banish power
- Card value
What more could we want?
Totally agree - let’s get the Deathbound!
Just a quick recap,
Good guys: 8 Apprentices, 2 Militia, 1 Scryer, 1 Transformed Oziah, 1 Scripture, 1 Everbloom, 1 Disciple of Cetra, 1 Delver, 1 Mystic
Bad guys: 7 Apprentices, 2 Militia, 1 Matron, 1 Stalker, 1 Templar, 1 Disciple of Oziah, 1 Paladin, 1 Deathdealer, 1 Mystic
It’s actually a pretty close game now. At minimum, we should be getting 6 honor a cycle (assuming we get the deathbound) due to our lifebounds, and if we get some unites, that number can go up as well. Also, if we can activate our scripture, that would give our chances of winning a nice boost. There are multiple dangers for us though as Dave should be on the fast track to Alset, has more buying power, and also has the possible Paladin Deathdealer combo.
Let’s hope Dave can’t get Alset this coming turn. I believe he has to have an apprentice and paladin in his hand, so let’s have a séance and ask the almightly spirits to deliver him no more power and 3 more apprentices. A Templar and 2 apprentices works as well. If he can’t get it this turn, we should have a good shot at getting it on our next turn as we have 5 runes and everbloom coming up, with one random card as well.

Alset is another dead end for Dave until he accumulates and gets two Constructs in play. Otherwise it’s a brown Landtalker. I actually wouldn’t mind him clogging up his deck with more runes at this point. Especially if Monsters are going to keep falling.
Oh, yeah, I’m cool with the Dbound Druid. Not my favorite card in this deck but pretty good for our current situation.
I detest the Deathbound Druid and it detests me. Stupid egotistical druid always has to go first every rotation.
That said, let’s get the Deathbound Druid.
Side game: what’s the 2nd worst card in Ascension? (excluding promos, which I’ve never played with.) The worst card is almost certainly Mechana Initiate, who almost never gets picked up except in the final turn, but I can’t think of the 2nd worst card off the top of my head. Druids v1.0 maybe? (By worst I mean least likely to be useful in most situations.)
Landtalker. I know it’s not technically the “worst” in that it adds value, but it’s so clearly overpriced relative to benefit that they went ahead and made a new Landtalker that only cost 5 runes in a later set (Loamspeaker Druid).
Interesting point with Alset, Kl3mnop. Maybe Micro is worrying a bit too much about Dave getting it, but if I’m Dave and I have 6 runes, I’m still going to buy it. That would be his fourth rune producing card outside his apprentices, so I don’t think it’s overkill, and it also prevents the good guys from getting it!
Soon, I would argue that the mech initiate is the third worst card in the game, with the militia being the worst and apprentice the second worst =P
Now that I’ve made an ass-like comment, I’m not sure what the second worst card in the game is. Maybe the arha initiate? Cuz essentially it does nothing except give you one victory point at the end game. Or maybe the lifebound initiate? The lifebound initiate clogs up the deck, but if you get it first turn, it’s still probably good for at least 5-6 victory points total.
I’ve got 4 votes for the Deathbound Druid. Anyone else want to weigh in?
I totally get what you’re saying Mithrophon cuz the loamspeaker gives the same amount for one rune less, but if it’s on the board and I have 6 runes, I’m still most likely buying it (assuming there isn’t a clear cut better card on the board). Getting that extra rune makes all the difference when you’re going for other 6, 7 or 8 rune cards.
They are not so much cards as demons to be exorcised.
Besides, if not for Apprentices, how would Williams buy his mystics? ;)
Arha Initate isn’t so bad, if I have 6 rune and nothing better else to buy, I’d take a chance to uncover something decent.
Thinking about it for a few minutes, I’d probably say Mechana Initiate > Druid v1.0 > Lifebound Initiate > Templar 1.0 in terms of how well they lock up/gets left on the board. Interesting that they’re all from Cotgs.
Yowza, taking Deathbound Druid reveals Vir, Ascetic Master!
Over to Anniebananie.
A big turn for Dave. He drew both the Paladin and D of O, allowing him to transform and use Scion of O to kill the giant and draw 2 cards. The giant revealed Initiate’s Gauntlets. Dave played the Stalker for another draw, mustering enough runes to buy his construct, and killed Sower of Discontent to close the turn.
Logs here:
Our situation:
We’ve got 6 runes.
Holy crap, I totally played my turn without realizing that it was the Hive Mind game.
:( :( :( :(
Sorry! Thanks for summarizing my turn, Scott.
This is what happens when you’re allowed to play Hive Mind games in perpetuity until you get a “fair” one.
:)
Here I would buy Alset, as a steppingstone to buying Vir, and to keep both out of Dave’s hands.

I’m partially swayed by the presence of Vir in wanting to grab Alset. But between Bananananana’s buying power and the presence of a Banisher in the center, we’re not ever going to get a shot at that card.
I’m open to discussion of taking a second Scryer. I’ve had a lot of success with a deck full of blue at the end game in RU. Especially if we find ourselves in possession of the Oziah Lion.
