While in general I’m not fond of Heavy Infantry, I have had success with buying a bunch of them when the board is monster heavy. If we buy them, we won’t stop at 3 unless we can buy a Power card from the center. Like Dave, I’d rather have Jakeb put iffy cards like the Stags into his deck and reveal new cards than us.

True. But the synchro is still in there.

Worrying about what might come up is one level of mental jiu-jitsu past what I’m capable of :)

He used Belthar last turn, right? So, if a 3-pointer comes up we should be able to banish it on our next turn before he gets to it. Then again, there’s a chance that he can get to 5 on the turn after (Belthar + HI), so I’d prefer to banish the Nox Soul if possible (actually with Arha Medium, he could potentially get to 7…so we might even want to banish Akam…but that’s a next turn question).

These games are weird, because I think sooo much more about these moves than in my actual games.

Synchronizers aren’t terrible for long. They’re only an Apprentice until you play them, then they’re out of the deck unless your opponent can force you to discard them.

Battery monk draws a card. No mucking there.

edit: nvm, beat to the punch.

In my alternate reality (it’s cozy in here BTW) I’m sitting with 5 apprentici, no deathsworn, no Askara and two more HI right now. He had to spend the 5 white for the Askara to even see the Growmites to get to use his Belthar. Then he can’t afford all the muck.

Now I buy the 3HI this turn and shuffle up with 5 Apprentices, 5 HI, SCE, and the Skeptic. I’m about to reveal an Arha Medium when I kill my first monster this next turn. Neener.

If this was a normal game and the honor of the Miyagi dojo wasn’t at stake, I’d be tempted to take a mystic via runes and leave it at that. He’s almost certainly going hard HI next turn, then his deck cycles, and if we buy 3 HI now we’re potentinally looking at 3 turns of 2 HI, 3 apprentices type of joy. If we do something else now, we can still load up on HI for the following cycle. But you guys are making it stressful and the path forward isn’t clear ;)

I’m going to stick with SCE->Stag and buy the Elemental Adept that’s going to be revealed! yeah!

I really hope you STAG LOVERS lose this vote! :D

Look at all them monsters! We gotta get ahead of the power curve. And Jake didn’t take either stag last turn when he sooooo could have.

In defense of the stag lovers, we’ll still be behind on power if we buy 3 HIs. But I do think it’s worth it to start to making the push now with this board. But I’m also concerned about our lack of runes should the board swing away from monsters again.

Stag lovers are bringing this whole country down.

I am fine with the 3 HI strategy. Worst case, it forces the game towards the end which limits strategies that we aren’t currently pursuing. I like the stags early because they are more flexible (buy up valuable cards or just burn the clock at a higher rate than HI), but with our ability to cull, banish, and 4 larger monsters on the board I’m down with HI.

20/20 hindsight revisionist history aren’t you dead anyhow?!

A slight lead right now for the HI folks over the Stag Lovers, and I’m about to hit the road for a little, so I’m going with the HI, putting one on our deck with the Elder.

Yay! We can kill the Noxious Soul next turn and stuff!

Our deck:
7 apprentices
1 Mystic
3 Heavy Infantry
1 Deathsworn Warrior
1 Eternal Askara
1 Stone Circle Elder
1 Elder Skeptic

His turn! But don’t let that stop you from theorizing, cuz I imagine that his turn is going to be pretty boring.

I cannot wait (if we can find his contact info) to reveal that he was playing, like, our whole league.

He’s obviously an alt of opkopk. It’s the only thing that explains his horrible advice ;)

The Noxious Soul is awesome for us since we can just barely kill it and it has a decent chance at crippling an early critical hand for him. So nuke the Soul (banish the apprentice) and rock another HI. We’re pretty committed to cull/heavy this round.

I’m haunting.
Is it really hindsight? Or is it an alternate reality?

Don’t make me show you the pics of all the times I’ve whooped up on ol Jakey. Once we started playing decks 3&4 I’ve had a nice little run going. He just blew me up repeatedly on 2&3 though and actually refused to play me on 1 only :-).

Since you went with the three HI, I agree with Lantz’s assessment. Banish the apprentice, kill the Soul and buy an HI unless another sweet 2 spot card flips

Well, damn, that’s a nice hand. Glad we didn’t listen to opkopk. Lunar Stag? That’s crazy talk.

Yeah, I think the next turn is pretty clear. same as above

of course I just remembered that it’s his turn right now not ours. we’ll see what happens.
