OK, I really did laugh out loud for that one.
So, yeah, I won the best of 3 for the Circle. Those were some truly memorable games, to boot. All sorts of wild crap going on, like killing the Rebel Godling in the last round with Sadranis. Now, it’s true you don’t get the trophy that way, and +1 Soul Gem is the best part of killing the Godling, but the 8 points were nice anyway.
Oh yeah, circle: Circle of Iron does come to mind immediately. “It’s hard to kill a horse with a flute.”
Oh yeah, also: Gus defeated Prolix.

…but the second game was a squeaker. I was lucky to win it.
Ok, more seriously, the last circle of souls games were pretty great. Gus challenged with RotF and IH only, which I usually dislike because I feel like the expansions are more heightened than the base packs, and that combo feels like all dessert ad no meat. But I figured that for the finals that was appropriate. Gus took the first by a comfortable margin, and I took the second (all live), so it came down to the 3rd final match for all the marbles.
The opening draw was 2 earth sworn warriors and 1 arbiter of fate. So, by the first deck cycle, I had banished 3 cards (I think Gus passed on one?), and then another 2 almost immediately. It continued more or less in that fashion. It was basically tied going into the last turn (withing 2 points or so, so down to deck honor), and Gus had a crazy bonkers 30+ point turn.
My wife looked at me funny because I was sitting on the couch just swearing at the screen for a good 5 minutes while that played out.
Also, this format is too stressful. Remind me to never do it again.

I seem to recall it was a Deathsworn Warrior and a Soul Shaper that I passed on. I took a Mystic instead because I don’t like either one that much, particularly when the only monsters up were Samael and a Sordid Asp. That, and I wanted to work toward the expensive card that was up, which I think was Sadranis.
