In part, I’m inventing new formats because I haven’t had a fresh Ascension thought in months. I feel like I’ve tried every strategy I could think of now. And it bugs me that many games are decided in the opening three rounds, and there is nothing one player can do to stop the other player.
e.g., versus Emos, I got Arha Sensei and Black Watch Elite and Voidthirster in the first three rounds. There were zero ways he could prevent that opening. Now the game is likely decided, and we just have to go through the motions.
That’s why best-of-threes are often needed, to account for opening rounds like that!
When you see Rise of Vigil, you will get fresh new thoughts, don’t you worry~ That reminds me, I should go look for Darkness Unleashed.
Darkness Unleashed is great. I also played a 4 player team variant of the game a few weeks ago that was a lot of fun. Basically, everyone plays out their own hands but you can spend 1 extra rune to buy a card for your teammate. It’s definitely the way to go if you’re playing Ascension with 4 players.
