Changes:
-
If anyone would prefer to start in the Pit, that’s fine!
-
Circle games will be on a 3 day timer, and players who should have been challenged by opponents but have not been in 24 hours may simply create the game themselves.
-
An extra layer between regular season and playoffs: When the month ends, the four Circle champions will face the four Pit champions as teams for the right to enter the finals. The winning team will be joined by the best player from the losing team and those five players will vie for the championship.
Any thoughts about this structure that you’d like to share are welcome!
If you’d like to participate in March, please post or PM me!
The league started in September 2011, so this is our 31st straight month coming up. Check out our humble graphical beginnings:

dannimal and sinnick are the oldest of the old schoolers!
In. (deleted silly comment)
I’m in. Good to hear you’re sticking with the format.
In for march. 3 day timers ftw. TIL that iOS autocorrects ftw as fatwa which also works.
The Pit
Brakara defeats Pastos with just a single honor point. GG!
Oh, and count me in for March as well.
I’m really not liking it for a variety of reasons, but what am I going to say, no? A handful of Ascension games is better than none.
If you want lots of games, you can start out in the Pit. All you’d be missing is the chance to be a Circle champion, and I know you have a good chance cuz you’re a great player, but you might want to just pass that by and shoot for top 4 in the Pit.
What if circle winners were to automatically drop into the pit with a reasonable point lead? Skipping the circle tournaments puts you at an inherent disadvantage starting from 0, but winning your circle means you hardly get to play. I’m hopeful that the limit on circle games helps out with the tournaments taking too long to complete, but I agree that this is another area that could be improved. Even though it has some kinks, it’s a fun format and I’d like to see it stick around for a bit.
I rather like that I didn’t have to play many games this past month! :D
In for March. :-)
Still have 3 games…hoping to wrap up quickly.
That’s the issue. “Go right into the pit” is volunteering to mark all your initial games as losses.
But you only get 1 point per round, not per win, and that didn’t prove to be very many for most people last month. I could cut that total in half, I suppose…
In which case, the question becomes: why run the circles? If they aren’t affecting the score, and you’re thinking about reducing the circle score even more, how is it different from just running a big everyone-plays-everyone league?
The Circles are just a first stab at making the playoffs. I also liked having a small group to interact with for a couple of weeks. I think I could name the other five off the top of my head.
Plus this structure has a nifty theme!
I like the new structure and I like the timer on circle games. We can enforce it by putting 3 days as the time limit on invites.
Hard to believe it’s been almost three years, Dave. Thanks for running things all this time. You’re the man.
Just win, baby… in 3 days or less.
I’m in for more abuse in March
I caught a live Annie! When you catch this mythical creature, you stay for it and suffer the 10 minutes of abuse, in whatever way she thinks best fits you for the day.
Today, she decided it would be a sadistic abuse of the Stone Circle Elder, and the setting was a Xmas Circle game. GG Annie. annie over iron, Xmas circle
