Ugh. That sounds like a fair description, unfortunately.

I really like the concept for the April pit, although the one day timer may be a problem. Some of us actually have to work for a living! ;)
Mr. Perkins wants us to drink the kool-aid, so that we can ascend to the heavens and take the space shuttle together or whatever he has planned for us. I, for one, will take the plunge. Beam me up, Dave!
I wish they included a 2 day timer cuz I think it would be perfect! Please keep the comments coming.
A one day timer will also be a problem for players in opposite hemispheres (i.e.: me vs just about anyone), should one of us choose to sleep and so on.
Why can’t we all just live in one hemisphere?

We can of course, you just need to see sense, and move down here.

I should explain why I would like to try the format I mentioned earlier (with 3 day timers, not 1 day timers, to accommodate people in weird time zones where humans were never meant to live.
I don’t myself really want to play a ton of games all at once, Pit-style. I used to want to do this month after month, but I’m not really getting a lot from Ascension any more depth-wise. When new decks come out, I’d happily play Pit-style again! These days, however, I feel a bit like there’s nothing left to learn.
I do very much enjoy having a couple of games going at a time, on the other hand, so Circle-style is still really appealing. But I don’t want to play just a Circle tourney, because people get knocked out and have no other way to participate.
Thus the idea in post 6361 just above was birthed. I appreciate the responses you’ve all given me. If hardly anyone wants to take the proposed approach, but most everyone would like to play Pit-style, and someone would offer to run that league, I will pass over the league master cap.
I like the Circle/Ascension idea in part because people will be generally playing versus people who have enjoyed the same amount of success thus far, sort of like an ELO system. And I think that it will be more likely that the non-usual suspects will make the playoffs, which will be more intense for everyone.
Further thoughts?

I am certainly willing to try! I find myself not really wanting to play a lot of games at once myself either.
Another thing that might be interesting, and could throw in some variety (if that’s what you’re looking for) is maybe introduce three-person games somehow? Like maybe each person in the pit sends an invite to the two people next to him to a three-person game and the winner does … something. I haven’t thought this through.

I thought about the “Circles with levels” idea a bit further (on the highway), and I personally love it. Of course, I would play Ascension in any style: pit style, circle style, unicorn style, froggy style…
At the heart of it, Dave wants to go from a monthly league to a more weekly tournament. Even so, two circle games a week with 3-day timers seem quite doable. For those who would find that not enough. you could sign up as a [3] :)
I asked who would make playoffs upthread. I guess it would be the top 6 players according to their “circle level” at the end of 4 weeks/rounds of play?
The one scenario you would often run into is having only 1 or 2 players left in a “Circle level”. In that case, I would propose that;
with 2 players only in a “Circle level”, those 2 play a best-of-3 series during the week to see who goes up/down a level and who stays at the level,
with 1 player only in a “Circle level”, that person sits that week, lonely, looking desperately for games in the online lobby :)
Dave, thanks for the creative league/tourney ideas as always! If there is one league I would not play in this forum, it is a league where Dave isn’t the league master, making snarky comments at people living in weird time zones like the southern hemisphere :D

I have nothing else to say other than I’m all for it.
It sounds good to me. I’m a bit burnt out myself and had been considering dropping out next month, but this sounds like a reasonable alternative.
Derp sorry you can scratch Pastos off my list. I was mistaken - he won.
