I like the new deck, but the extra required account is super-annoying. The login screen has a “What is This?” button, and if you click it they explain that the “new system will allow us to better integrate all our players across our various products.”

yeah this Soul Gem mechanic is incredibly crazy! Mechana Initiate one turn and a Master Dartha the next! Are the Soul Gem cards from the base set only, haven’t gotten enough games in yet to notice.

I’ve already found a weird … bug? … with the soul gems. Apparently, a Lifebound Initiate doesn’t count as Lifebound for the purposes of the Soul Gem Runic Lycanthrope’s Quasi-Unite Ability.

I found that too, but I think it’s intentional. The Soul Gem cards are supposed to be their own thing, and not part of the regular card types (note, Runic Lycanthrope doesn’t say “Lifebound Hero” on it).
Lifebound got a major boost in this pack. Almost all of the heroes have Unite features, which stack up in a hurry.
Killed all five Growmites and got an achievement! Woooo!

The ascension website says SoS plus IH is for games with > 2 players. I definitely like SoS+IH more than SoS+RotF though so hopefully that will displace the old SoS combo.
Holy crap, IH is super bonkers. Crazy combo potential. I wonder if they’re going to have the same power creep problem early magic had where the expansions were too good.

The concept here is that decks 1&2 were a ‘thing’. Decks 3&4 are a ‘thing’. I think in the purest form you’re not supposed to mix across those boundaries. The soul gems were added to pull in some fun cards from the first ‘thing’ since you’ll never see them again as you’re in the other ‘thing’. Deck 5 is the beginning of ‘thing’ three and it’ll have a mini-expansion next year to complete that ‘thing’. I don’t read the story or even remember the card names so I’m sure there’s a fun mythology and crap around all this. I don’t care, I reduce it to a math problem.
If you’ve played in real life it should be obvious that it’s way easier to mix and match decks in the iOS version and maybe all this was planned out prior to having that capability.
Irregardless of all that its all fun and it all pretty much works together.
Also, soul gems do not count as their old card’s suit, you can’t discard them, but I think you can banish them.
So far I suck pretty badly. Echoes of when SoS dropped.
Lesson of the day: You don’t get the trophy if you kill trophy monsters in the Void.
How long have I been playing this game?
So far, I stand by my assessment that this set is bonkers. It seems really easy to get huge chains compared to the older sets. Moment of Clarity is especially crazytown.
Also, is it just the luck of my draws, or are constructs way stronger in SoS+IH than in the other combinations? I haven’t noticed that any of the monsters they added in IH destroy opponents constructs, so they’re just a much safer bet all around.
Edit: There is one. That guy that discards all constructs for the guy with the most. But that’s very situational. I stand by that constructs are stronger in this set.
