It is on the critical path, nearly at the end of the story. You cannot miss it, so keep playing.
Any of the ones that say that, essentially mean you’ll take them out as part of the story.
Finished the main story the other day. 102h and 95% completion. Definitely a better game than Origins. I’m on to the DLC, though I admit I’m not super excited about it.
I think I liked Origins more, though Bayek had a similarly bland main objective. I’ll add a disclaimer that I never touched any of the DLC or expansions for Origins though.
Origins felt fresh, because it was, to a certain extent. Odyssey feels like just an iteration on what Origins did.
For the next game, I just want one finally set in, like, Japan’s Sengoku period. Or another one that features proper ships-of-the-line and whatnot, like Black Flag.
I think one set in proper medieval Europe could be cool, with castles and the whole lot.
We know. We all know.
You’ve been threadshitting this game for well over a month now, and just kinda repeating yourself now.
Fair game to be critical and express a contrary view to those who like it. And plenty here that can be criticized. But man…we get it. :)

I should go threadcrap on the Origins thread about how Kassandra is obviously superior.
Rei it is obvious --she is a woman.

I liked the Tomb exploration way more in Origins due to the Egyptian setting. Man I loved that setting. These Ass Creed developers are the best in the world now for digital historical recreation. Their art and animation team is getting so slick.
It’s their systems I’m digging. It feels like a new series with all these combat mechanics. Manuvering some crucial dodges to lure an enemy with their back to a cliff then Spartan kicking them off it is so fun, every time. Plus the ship. Boarding ships is back and the ship open world in general is awesome. It’s like Black Flag: Agean Sea. I think it and crew recruitment are definately cool new directions. If they can add Lieutenants running around with you in the next one I’m all in. I have 4 on my ship: A giant woman clan chief in furs (her giant axe seems to do flame damage), a sideways feathers Spartan dude in full armor, a pirate I defeated who is super quick, and a random Athenian archer whose outfit I liked. The distraction is a start, I wish I could pick which one to send or accompany me around.
They are definately going the RPG like direction. I like it.
Origins especially reminded me a ton of The Witcher 3. Odyssey less so, probably because I associated it with Origins.
Sandbox meets narrative/history. Can be ugly. For me, though, much fun was had amid the incoherence.
I’m not sure what “threadshitting” is, but I’ve certainly been critical of the game (and series) in the places I think it deserves it - though never without actually explaining my criticisms. I didn’t recall ever mentioning that I liked Origins more, although I don’t really keep track of those things.
However, I’m also level 84, and literally finished every quest in the game, so it’s not like I didn’t enjoy myself overall. If it was just trash, I wouldn’t waste my time thinking about the historical or mechanical stuff it could do better, and how.
If you want to discuss more of the things you liked, then by all means.

It is believed that the next one is going to be in the Vikings era.
I finally uninstalled both Origins and Odyssey, though i will possibly go back to them some day. I had finished the main story in both, and a ton of the additional stuff in Odyssey. I took a brief detour to do about half of Syndicate, but the constant crashing in that game (and only that game) and the generally meh feeling I got from the minute to minute stuff didn’t really hold me.
I definitely enjoyed Odyssey a ton, and Origins nearly as much. Odyssey was my first real foray into the AC world. I had I think AC 2 in my library with like an hour played or something from years ago, but that’s about it.
Syndicate is the only AC game I’ve never touched. I’ve considered going back to it, but I kinda fear that it’ll feel mechanically poor, because it was the last game before Ubisoft took a few years to retool the series with Origin.
Syndicate is very interesting now to see the direction the series was going before Ubisoft reset the whole thing.
I wish it was going back in that direction. :)
There’s certainly an argument to be made that old fans of AC may not find what they liked in Origin or Odyssey. For example, open terrain versus a focus on one urban environment per game, or the change to hidden blade kills being dependent on RPG damage stats. No crowd stealth. The complete cliffhanger with regards to the current day story.
I’d certainly like to see the return to a smaller but more dense urban environment. The maps for Origins and Odyssey are impressively large, but with that size comes a certain “samey-ness” to a lot of the terrain and little towns.
I hope next-gen AC also figures out a way to make the cities feel a little more mechanically “interesting” to the player - by which I mean the ability to enter more buildings, more stores, etc. Take some tips from what Rockstar does with their cities and towns. It’s a shame to build an incredibly detailed cityscape, only to effectively use it as a jungle gym. One of my low-key favourite parts of Unity, was simply going back to that cafe that functioned as your home base, and seeing what was going on there.
Imagine a game set in a city at a period where there was a lot of civil unrest, and protests or riots would form naturally in the streets - and you could even strategically stoke the flames to your benefit!
I can go for either style really. One challenge with big open-world games is the sameness–like the cookie-cutter Greek villages. A challenge for dense urban environments, though, is that dense urban environments effectively can have infinite spaces, and the compromises you need to make it work, like not every door opening, not every window accessible, not every surface that should be scalable is, etc., hurts immersion too. There are tricks for getting around both challenges, of course, and good designers can do it, but there is no free lunch.

For a second I thought you meant the EA cyberpunk series. I can’t even run the 2012 version anymore on a current PC.
