Try the later added survival mode - its rather incredible, and changes the whole game. Fewer enemies, more dangerous enemies, darker nights, a LOT more dangerous nights. It also removes several gamekilling skills, and large parts of the UI.
Other than that - if you enjoy exploring a wonderful world full of wonders and magic moments, Far Cry Primal is REALLY good in this regard. If you want to go the extra step, and make every action more meaningful, select hardcore survival with one life only to spare.
