Awesome!

This time with 1 person parties?

Good to hear, even with the retro 90’s graphics I enjoyed the first one.

I hope they decide to support the android platform with this game like the first one was, otherwise I won’t be getting it. The graphics are just to small for a really old fart like me to see on the computer and I don’t own an Ipad and I’m not going to buy one just to play this game. I’m currently enjoying the first Avadon game on my android table, everything seems to be the right size graphically for me to see and poke at with my finger.

Announced and now out on Steam, $8 for the moment. I picked it up but I haven’t even finished the first game yet so don’t count on me for commentary.

This is a nice surprise. I didn’t realize this was so close to release.

Steam tells me I had well over 100 hours into Avadon and I never did finish it. I believe I was getting close, though. Then I got caught up in the new Avernum: Escape from the Pit and have a fairly powerful party running around there ready to push toward the end. I probably should try to finish those first, but I sometimes can’t resist the new shiny and know I will not be able to resist purchasing Avadon 2 right away.

The good thing is I am now glad I held off on Might & Magic X when I was itching for a new RPG last week. Now I can wait for that to be completed and work on these in the meantime when I want some RPG goodness.

Looking at the screenshots it looks like a 3 person party? like Avadon? I would imagine you have your main character and can select the 2 companions you want from the other available characters like in the first one. Even if you don’t use them all, they all gain experience with your main character so they are available when you want to switch up your party make-up.

$7.49 DRM free on GOG for a week.

Apparently I own all the Spiderweb games from Humble deals but never played anything but a few minutes of Avadon. I assume that’s the best of the bunch?

I personally don’t think so. In terms of traditional RPGs, Avernum 2 and 3 are my favorites. For neato science fantasy stuff, I have played- and loved- every Geneforge except the last one.

I thought Avadon was great, personally. Its greatest strength is probably its very detailed and interesting back-drop, with a bunch of scheming, disparate nations all uneasily ruled by a tyrant, who you work for. I thought that story-wise it had some similarities to Game of Thrones in that regard (but with less incest, or at least I assume so). It’s one of the few RPGs where I didn’t feel the urge to instantly skip all the in-game text.

It’s the newest of the bunch. (Technically the Avernum remake came out after it did, and of course Avadon 2, but the former is retread #3 of Spiderweb’s first game so new isn’t really the word for it. It’s good, though!) Best is very subjective, but probably not. It’s Vogel’s first experimentation with actual NPCs with personalities and backstories AFAIK, certainly as core party members, and it’s way more linear than his other games. I’ve always felt Geneforge was the best of Spiderweb’s franchises, although I’m sad that Nethergate didn’t work out for him.

Anyone have any impressions yet?

I’ve put a few hours into it, not sure there is a great deal to comment on though. Same engine, same graphics, new story. :)

As mentioned earlier by Malkav11, Avadon 2 is 20% off at $7.99 on Steam until the end of next week. $0.50 more than GOG to be sure, but could be worth the extra pennies for people who like keeping their game collections in one place.
