Babylon 5 lives

A theme of Straczynski’s mostly remarkable autobiography is that he comes into a new industry, makes something special, is forced into a position where he has to compromise in some way, then instead of compromising, he burns so many bridges that he has to stroll to a new industry and begin again. In integrating decades of jms Usenet posts and tweets, it sounded like there was some nameless bigwig in Warner Brothers Television that had been severely scorched in one of those bridge fires, who swore on his terrible burns that B5 would never be developed as a resource again. Further, it sounded like that scarred bigwig had finally retired, died, or been taken out via studio/palace politics, and this is where jms began to make noise about a B5 TV revival. (As opposed to the movie project which is, uh, behind schedule. Or non-existent.) JMS kept linking B5’s hopes to a champion at The CW, as opposed to HBO Max or another outlet of Warner Brothers media. I don’t know if The CW’s Mark Pedowitz was a friend or fan or both, but that champion has been taken out via studio/palace politics.

So what next? Who can say?
