Backup software recommendations

After dealing with another hard drive death, I’m curious what software people are using to backup their systems regularly. Ideally it would be something I could backup to a network drive instead of requiring a CD-R, DVD-RW, etc.

For Windows you could always use the built in NTBACKUP which is ok. It works but logging/reporting is pretty minimal and it has crummy media management features but it works and you can set it up to run from command line (and it’s included with Windows). I would advise you stay away from Retrospect, that program really sucks because the interface is really non-intuitive, reporting is terribly lacking in detail, and forget about manageing the media.

I’m assuming you’re talking about Windows XP or 2000 btw. If it’s Linux then I’m sure someone else can chip in.
