Bad sectors/bad disk Windows obfuscation: chicken or egg?

Windows’ problem with bad sectors/repairing disk corruption is that it never tells you what files are affected. Whether they are important system files or unimportant game files. My 1 month old system newly built has been rock solid until a complete system freeze twice (during The Division 2) today. This is a month old WD Black NVMe 512GB PCIe SSD.

After which I noticed I couldn’t do a disk image to back it up, with Macrium Reflect citing VSS (volume shadow copy) disk file system errors that needed fixing so it rebooted and did that. Clearlly something fucked up the filesystem during the freezes.

This being my Windows drive, there are only a a handful of games installed and short of uninstalling and redownloading TD2, I have no idea if my Windows stability will be compromised going forward.

Ideas?

Get the drive replaced under warranty.

It’s unlikely WD will allow for that since both the quick and extensive SMART test currently show no defects.
