Baking

Yeah. You could just find a nice, sturdy, unadorned apron and bring it to your local seamstress for embroidering.

That’d work too. When I worked in the bakery I had a normal apron, which worked as intended. When my aunt realised I’d be sticking around she got me a smock type thing with my name on it, made me feel like a boss.

But professional work outfitters that do chef/bakers gear are very used to doing single person orders, because it’s usually up to the chef to buy it for themselves.

So, barstein, what did you finally choose, and did your fiancee like it?

Jeez, not cool on my part to forget to update! It was a huge success. Thanks to all of you for your careful and thoughtful suggestions. I got her a collapsible cooling rack, a nonstick rolling pin, the Ruhlman book and created a bouquet of silicone spatulas, multicolored pastry brushes, a microplane and a silpat. She loves all of it and was very appreciative.

Very appreciative eh? Nudge nudge, wink wink say no more eh? A nod’s as good as a wink to a blind bat.
