Well, I’m not sure what the alternatives were there. Matt made it clear a long time ago that he couldn’t seperate P&R from the rest of the forum when it came to Brad and you can only go around being a jerk about it for so long. And Tom gave him plenty of opportunities to just stop posting in that thread.

Hopefully he will be back soon. I know Cliffski was punted at one point last week for losing it in his own thread, but I haven’t noticed if he’s returned or not.

Oh? Good. I like Cliff and I tend to fall on his side of that interminable piracy debate by a wide margin, but lately he seems to be driving down the wrong side of the road head-on into Derek Smartdom at times. Hopefully when he comes back that’ll be mitigated a bit, since we don’t have a ton of indy developers around here who seem to have the time to post that he does. (And when we do we run them off because they’re on the wrong side of the political spectrum, apparently. :/ )

Matt’s ‘inability’ to separate Brad’s P&R self was irrelevant, he was certainly not the only one going after Brad for issues on Elemental. There’d be another half-dozen people banned if that was the metric.

His last substantive post was 16 hours ago. Since then, he posted 10 or 12 times and had literally 5 or 6 different people (including Tom) request (with varying degrees of tact) that he quit posting in the thread. As is often the case, I presume there was an exchange of PMs.

Unless the hypothetical PMs were pretty bad, I’m still a little surprised at this. When I saw the post here, I assumed he had gone into the “single purpose” thread and started being a dick, but he was at least reasonable enough to not go that far.

Tom doesn’t PM anymore with warnings. He stopped doing that years ago, and stated it pretty explicitly too when he changed policy. I’m surprised people still believe that’s how things work around here.

Bingo. Tom himself has said some pretty critical things about the state of the game as well. Matt’s comments had nothing to do with the game, even if he tried to be clever about how he framed them. And other people then Tom pointed that out in the thread.

Amusingly the first Fidgit diary probably caused more (justified) financial harm than any of Matt’s silly wrestling gifs.

What is happening is that the 50% bonus that was supposed to be 10% is being applied to the additional 25% bonus from the school as well, for a 37.5% bonus, which is then added to the 50% for a rounded up total of 88%, which is then applied to the 5 points provided by the Lost Library twice, bringing it first up to 9.4, then up again to 17.672, which is then rounded down to 17.6, unless the formula is still using 87.5%, in which case it is 17.625 being rounded down.

In other words, done goofed.

Others are able to have a good laugh about Mark Rein taking a dump on cliffski at a conference and others in turn have good laughs about cliffski’s vehemently expressed ivory tower ideology regarding piracy, all without segues into “why” and exhortations from the management to fuck off.

And furthermore, if you purport to know all of my motivations for doing nothing but making on-topic jokes riffing on opinions that many have expressed, why do you imply that you consider those motivations invalid? Are they really? How ugly an American does Brad have to be and how many developers who employ my friends have to have their reputations close to obliterated by his fuckups and subsequent shady spin before I am allowed to make a joke or five at his expense?

With Matt Gallant, it was a recurring thing. There are posts on here in Games and P&R where he just goes after Brad like an attack dog for political reasons. Coming into a thread about a developer that he hates, regarding a game that he has no intention of ever getting, just to poke and prod him is amateur hour. That’s all he ever does regarding Brad and he pops up in multiple Stardock threads. He had nothing to put in regarding the game itself and he posted only to be an asshole and provoke Brad and sneer at the rest of the posters there. He had nothing constructive, interesting, or worthwhile to add. He was there to troll, he trolled, and he got kicked for it. In this case, good riddance.

I don’t care if he dislikes Brad. I don’t care if he dislikes Stardock. But shut the fuck up already. If I followed Tom Ohle around bitching about his political beliefs and shat up every thread he was in, I’d get banned too, and I’d deserve it.

If Matt can rein that in and behave maturely when he’s on the forum, then by all means bring him back – just because I don’t like him doesn’t mean I want him gone. But I want the posturing to stop regarding Brad Wardell.
