I don’t think there are any bots on Quarter to Three. You know where else there aren’t any bots? This great site I went to for my refinanced mortgage! They even gave me discount pharmaceuticals and all I had to do was give them my social security number and email address!

My guess would be that this was a matter of convenience more than Tom being pissed off. Specifically, I bet Qt3’s recent coverage created a huge influx of new accounts to vet and Tom just didn’t want to deal with it.

No, this makes it impossible to ban anyone since they can just create a new account (MattGallantMkII). It is no longer possible to regulate behavior on the forum at all, other than locking threads, which is pointless. I fear Tom is largely throwing in the towel.

Seriously, though? How about people stop the rampant speculation until the guy what runs these here forums chimes in? Perhaps going to an open, unmoderated forum is the intent. Perhaps not. In the past few months, the radical upswing in ban-worthy douchebaggery from the community has got to be insanity-causing for anyone trying to maintain a forum for reasonable and polite discourse, given the sheer volume of people determined to throw reason and politeness to the winds given any excuse.

To paraphrase an axiom, perhaps everyone gets the forum experience they deserve.

Hell, I would throw in the towel too if I never knew which longtime poster was going to flame out spectacularly and then, after addressing it either way, had to deal with the peanut gallery in this thread taking shots about what he should have done, how the line’s not well-defined, blah blah blah. It probably gets pretty fucking old.

I admin a board with 600 registered users, many of whom are also QT3 people. It’s not difficult if you have the board nailed down tightly to police spammers, and have multiple moderators

The captchas didn’t work. We make people answer a question now, which eliminates the bots but unfortunately not the sweatshop workers.
