Thanks, that was all that needed to be clarified. It’s just that the absence of any clear statement it’s easy to be confused as to what unannounced changes mean when you are seeing alts show up as if this is third grade again.

“innit” being a contraction of “isn’t it”, used by people from a certain part of England. Mostly round here. It sounds horrible when it’s used but at least it’s logical.

Bit different to taking a saying, changing it and losing the original meaning, then blithely using the new version without stopping to realise that what you’re saying doesn’t actually make any sense.

I think I just got myself into trouble.

I’m in the kitchen, fixin’ to get dinner ready, and my son (5 1/2) comes in and says, “The Calvin & Hobbes book I’m reading just gave me an idea…let’s go in the living room and dance to some music!”

So I figure what the hell and put on some music and dance around like an idiot with my son. We’re getting pretty wacky, goofing around, and we start kicking each other a bit. Playful kicks on the hind side, like you do. Smacking each other around a bit, sort of fake wrestling. Then he gets a pillow and the dancing dissolves into a full on pillow fight.

Then I realize I’m dancing, and having a major pillow fight.

Let’s break this down since you seem to be confused. Here is my first post:

You’ll note the “:-)” there, indicating a not particularly serious post. And yet Abilio decided to call me names in response, even though I wasn’t the only one expressing concern about the sudden onslaught of alts trying to be funny.

yeah, that’s more or less the kind of douchy, humorless thing you’d do.

So yeah, I did respond seriously to being called a name out of nowhere. But I didn’t respond in kind, and instead said something that was really designed to get a response from Tom, which was the whole point of the first post after all.

And changing the forum without bothering to even show up and explain why he’s doing it isn’t?

Note that I didn’t call Abilio anything. I essentially called Tom the douche.

Yes, please. I dig the Elemental schadenfreude as much as anyone, but we’ve got plenty of our own forum drama right here without importing it from elsewhere.

You know, I had a pretty long post typed out in this window, but I’ve just deleted it. Because trying to explain myself hasn’t really worked out in the past.

Suffice to say, this is a message board like any other. I’m not sure what you want from me. The changes have been clearly noted by someone else upthread. The sky isn’t falling, Qt3 isn’t going away, and banned accounts don’t get to magically waltz back in and have their way with you. I’ll happily close new accounts that exist for no reason other than to abuse the forum. So if you guys see this, please let me know and I’ll take care of it (for instance, The Kraken account is cute; the Your Mother account wasn’t). But otherwise, Qt3 is still Qt3 in that it’s going to be what you guys make of it.

Well, what it sounded like was you trying to be forum cop. If you didn’t actually report anyone, then my bad. But somehow I don’t think you really refrained from it.

This forum has a cool history of jokey alts, from the Narrator to Rimbo. reporting new ones before we find out if they’ll be good or not is douchey, sorry. Your Mother might not be the funniest thing in the world, but it still beats The Narrator II or El Narrador.

As for “direction of qt3” type posts, I’d love to have an honest discussion about it, and I think it’s needed, but I’m new so it’s not my place to start it, and I kinda doubt Tom would be interested anyway.

It appears my offending final straw post was where I talked about NWJ’s ban and called some people part of the “mom brigade”. I’d link to the post, but I can’t post links until I hit 50 posts, so that’ll be sometime in 2011. I thought it was OK to talk about bans in the ban thread, but Lorini said I had a serious mental issue as her reply, so I guess it was a pretty inappropriate post for moms to read.

But I feel good about this fresh start! I’m using my full name now for extra accountability.
