So reporting a post means a person is a forum cop? Even when Tom has specifically said he wants us to use the “report” button to let him know about things that he might otherwise not be aware of? In the end the only cop is Tom since he’s the only one can do anything anyway.

This forum has a cool history of jokey alts, from the Narrator to Rimbo. reporting new ones before we find out if they’ll be good or not is douchey, sorry. Your Mother might not be the funniest thing in the world, but it still beats The Narrator II or El Narrador.

There’s a difference between past jokey alts that were specifically allowed and a bunch of people deciding the flood the board with them. That most (if not all) of them have already been banned should tell you what Tom’s view of the practice is, humor aside.

As for “direction of qt3” type posts, I’d love to have an honest discussion about it, and I think it’s needed, but I’m new so it’s not my place to start it, and I kinda doubt Tom would be interested anyway.

In the end this board is whatever Tom wants it to be, even if he does leave us to our own devices most of the time.

Forget it, Jimmy. It’s Yentatown.

Why don’t you just put the whole world in a Tom Chick, Sarkusman?

I think we should all be randomly assigned one of the hundreds of hobo names from The Areas of My Expertise.

I want John Candy

BTW, my sky is falling pic was sarcasm.

So many folks jump to conclusions about the end times of Qt3 every time something happens and at the other end of the trumped calamity that brings this sentiment about, we still have good conversations about games, books, movies and various miscellany. The quality of those discussions, it goes without saying maybe, is subjective. We all get enough out of them to keep coming back, don’t we?

How long do folks generally wait before Tom has his actions called into question, yet again, for “picking up his ball and going home” or something similar? 4 hours? 8? How many people would you all say have quit Qt3 in disgust never to return? I mean, those who are regulars and have substantive input? My guess would be few, but some may have thoughts otherwise. If this board is on a gradual slide into Hell, one would think there may have been a few more departures than it would appear.

If you are so disappointed with the direction of things or feel Tom owes something to you or “the community”, I would say start your own board. I am 87% serious. Then you can admin to your heart’s content. Sanctioning folks and banning people and enforcing rules that are stringent as opposed to what people perceive to be unfairly arbitrary at Qt3. Enlist some other Qt3ers to help in policing as I am sure you will uniformly agree with what each other decrees when something has to be done to keep your board free of offenders and firmly entrenched in good ol’ days. Solicit game developers and writers to come on your board and discuss things freely. When you make an unpopular decision, not that you will make one because your black and white rules will seem fair to one and all, feel free to repeatedly come into a thread such as this and defend yourself until blood weeps from your eyes. Shouldn’t really have to, but one trollish rabblerouser may come in to start trouble that you must quickly quash. Explaining yourself in clear and concise terms will most definitely put an end to any of the doubter’s posts.

Sounds pretty simple, doesn’t it? Come to think of it, I don’t know why Tom has such a tough time.

Well, I have put the board in ‘time out’ a couple of times because I was taking it too seriously.

Maybe that’s just your deal. :)

And you keep coming back for the abuse. Maybe to some, Qt3 is like WoW.

If we can institute a one-week P&R raid lockout, that would be awesome.

Oh, and nerf Rimbo.

My only complaint about the new influx is that they haven’t yet gotten the message that this board values proper grammar and punctuation. Capital letters are your friends.

But usually some severe ridicule takes care of that within 50 posts or so.

The Top Books threads are not funny.

Thank you.

Hell, throw in a semi-colon and we’ll be your best friends. It doesn’t really; matter where you put it, either.

Only Alan Dunkin made a joke thread. The rest seem to have been made earnestly.

I’m not sure “earnestly” is exactly the right word. English may not even yet have the right word for the state of semiconscious focus that comes from the combination of horse doses of ambien and a refusal to go to bed.

I nominate “walrusly” as the appropriate term.

It’s a book forum and the threads are asking for people to offer up favorite writers in various genres. They’ve all lead to real conversations and people grabbing new books. Even the joke one. So I’m not sure I see the problem.

Heaven forbid we promote reading new things!

Changed my mind. I wish to be McGurk, Who May Be Found by the Card Catalogue.
