It appears my offending final straw post was where I talked about NWJ’s ban and called some people part of the “mom brigade”. I’d link to the post, but I can’t post links until I hit 50 posts, so that’ll be sometime in 2011. I thought it was OK to talk about bans in the ban thread, but Lorini said I had a serious mental issue as her reply, so I guess it was a pretty inappropriate post for moms to read.

But I feel good about this fresh start! I’m using my full name now for extra accountability.

Agree totally. Just seems like the tiresome brand has far outweighed the the flameout rehashing for several months.

So many folks jump to conclusions about the end times of Qt3 every time something happens and at the other end of the trumped calamity that brings this sentiment about, we still have good conversations about games, books, movies and various miscellany. The quality of those discussions, it goes without saying maybe, is subjective. We all get enough out of them to keep coming back, don’t we?

Sure, but it’s depressing when things change for the worst, even if it’s not the end of the world. Did you know Tom just ended the QT3 gaming podcasts he’d been doing, apparently for reasons related to this latest forum drama? It’s hard to see stuff like that and not wonder what the future of QT3 is.

Yeah, I knew that he had done that. It sucks, but I totally understand his reasoning. He is probably exhausted from trying to hold together his vision of a forum community. He already has the drawback of internet craziness from random posters. Regular posters actively being dicks is even worse, I would imagine. Right now, something he has put a lot of energy into achieving is not happening to his level of expectations. Sure, I don’t like that things are changing (the magnitude of that change is debatable) and I love the idea of Tom’s vision and I think he has pretty much succeeded, more so than he realizes. Dealing with all the shit both behind the scenes and in front of the scenes would color anyone’s view of how things are going 'round these parts.

Anything he does from here on out is alright with me. I might not like it, but his efforts thus far are commendable and appreciated. Wringing my hands and lamenting the change is not very productive and I do not see any point. He might start back vetting. He might start back the podcasts after a break from them. He might not. The conjecture throughout this thread has served little purpose and alls I’m sayin’ is that the conjecture about the future of Qt3 is equally as pointless. As long as we continue to actively do our part in keeping to a decent level of discourse, Qt3 can continue to give us all the satisfying discussions we have always had. An influx of noobs will probably not be pleasant, but any alternative that includes Tom completely vacateing the premises and/or shutting the forum down would be exponentially worse. I intend to make the best of it and think there is still plenty to love here.
