Like most accounts, it would fall in a particular range depending on location and service provider.

Also, I have no idea why Cory doubts the veracity of the 10 number. No doubt a few of those were pure joke accounts, however, and not meant to stir up trouble. Frankly, even one account (the Punch Line alone, in fact) is enough to be disturbingly obsessive.

Are there vBulletin plugins that autodetect sockpuppet accounts for admins (aka just bring up a list of IPs that post to multiple accounts, which may not always be sock puppets, of course)? That would be sweet.

Dunno, but such a thing isn’t that hard to code up. A previous board (not running vBulletin) I helped admin used custom software for that sort of screening. It’s not foolproof, of course, but it does help with the signal/noise ratio.

IP bans don’t work for a myriad of reasons that is why you need experienced admins and mods to tell sockpuppets from behaviour/ rhetoric/ other signs.

Right, but you wouldn’t ban the IP. If you saw 1 account that you knew and 2 joke accounts logging in from the same IP, you’d have a good idea of whose alt accounts those were.

I have admitted that I was wrong to do what I did and apologized.

Not only are we not getting that from the alt-bearing individual, but he appears to have a gang of complete and total idiot fuckwads who are stupid enough to actually defend his obsessive behavior.

Edit: Yeah, I know a couple of people were dumb enough to defend the post I made, but hopefully they will sober up and realize the error of their ways.
