Tons of people piled on the baiting and again, I don’t know how many times I have to say this, but I am not a mod. I don’t ban anybody and I have no say. I don’t write the rules or enforce them. All I do is maintain the server and edit spam when I see it.

I was trying to head off the bannings. And I got attacked for it.

So did BobJustBob, scharmers, Cory, and mmalloy though. By the time all of those people starting piling in, spatzi had already posted some fresh racism in the very thread, so it baffles me as to why they would be hit with ban-shrapnel.

Especially BJB, who was arguing with spatzi in good faith and had a pretty genuine “Oh, you’re that guy?” reaction in the thread once the party had started.

Recap is there’s a thread in EE about nerd rage which I think you’ve posted in recently. In that, spatzi went on a rant about how rude Asian people are and that they’re a big problem in Vancouver whenever he’s walking down the street, coz they always knock into him or elbow him or some such nonsense.

Needless to say this didn’t go down well, he was called on it, and he just dialled up the idiot-o-meter to 100 as a result. Attack being the best form of defence, I guess.

Fast forward several months and he posts the thread in the Games forum about Steam being the devil because he has a bug in Far Cry 2 amongst other things, as well as taking swipes at everyone for “worshipping” Steam (I paraphrase). Obviously people respond in a less than cheerful manner, and BJB & Cory realise that it’s the racist idiot from the EE thread and start calling him on it, while everyone else responds to the posts he makes and calls him an idiot as a result of that. Again he dials the obnoxious up to 100 and makes endless comments about THE ASIANS in response to the baiting.

Stusser comes in and flames everyone claiming that he’s only responding to the baiting when it’s obvious that most people didn’t know what the fuck BJB/Cory were referring to and that the opening post and the followups were enough to earn the negative reaction from these people. Stusser gets angry, people who argued with spatzi previously get angry with Stusser, banhammer morphs into banMLRS and this is the outcome.

Um, I think that’s it.

Thank you good sir, toply informative posting. I remember the original asian-bashing posts. I still think there should be a defcon warning system in place here. F5ing a good war always gets the juices pumping.

I did read through the thread and some of the bannings are deserved based on what’s being said. Mmalloy’s is probably a little harsh based on one comment, but if she reported every post of original crazy dude then cool cool. I do get ElGuapo’s idea of mmalloy and bahimiron coming across as sanctimonious. But I am a consensus builder. So let’s all agree that they do think they’re better than crazy asian-hating man, and displayed such ideals in their posting.

The bannings are deserved by the letter of forum law, which is why my problem with the whole situation is that he should’ve been gone after that EE meltdown. He’s a scumbag.

He should have been gone, but since then Tom has laid down the law. He’s obviously annoyed that the forum has gotten bitchy. And the fact that a lot of people were oblivious to what the drama was, and were still posting about the heart of the thread opening on the fifth page excerbated things.

As somebody said before, Bill D did not reference anything that guy posted in another thread until he referenced it himself. In contrast, all of the other people who were banned were referring to it prior to his reference. Reading through thread, having never seen it before, it seemed fairly clear cut to me, given the mentioned rule.
