As somebody said before, Bill D did not reference anything that guy posted in another thread until he referenced it himself. In contrast, all of the other people who were banned were referring to it prior to his reference. Reading through thread, having never seen it before, it seemed fairly clear cut to me, given the mentioned rule.

That is demonstrably untrue. It’s pretty easy to get thread timelines like this mixed up, so I’m not calling you out or anything, but other than Bahimiron’s one post on the first page, nobody mentioned it at all until spatzi’s post here, where he posts some more racist crap as a shot at Bahimiron.

Only then do a couple of other people react, and then there’s a back-and-forth with spatzi throwing more racist tidbits into his posts as a weird defense mechanism. “Trolling him into being banned” is a very bad way to put it (as stusser did) because it only took one post to get spatzi to act out again.

I don’t disagree, but I’m more interested in pointing out factual flaws than arguing administration philosophy at this point, because I’ve seen where that’s led before and honestly I don’t have the energy for it ;-)

I have to admit I’m not sure what the intent of a ban is anymore.

Also, as I mentioned in the EE thread, I’ve lived in Vancouver for 24 years and my experience is not in even the slightest way similar to spatzi’s. I’m pretty sure I am using the same sidewalks, too!

Hmm. I guess I didn’t see that post. It is hard actually reading the entirety of his posts. ;) Post #16 is a P&R reference, though it seems irrelevant to the “other thread” in question. Post 31 seems to be a reference. Those two posters remain gently touched (along with Cory and spatzi), while people who were poking the bear after 51 seem to have been unbanned. Now I have officially spent far too much time reading a stupid thread.

Tons of people piled on the baiting and again, I don’t know how many times I have to say this, but I am not a mod. I don’t ban anybody and I have no say. I don’t write the rules or enforce them. All I do is maintain the server and edit spam when I see it.

Wow, I read that thread and tried to understand why spatzi started using the “Asian shoulder checking” thing again. You can see him/her? get more and more worked up as the thread goes on…He just sort of goes into “I don’t give a fuck” mode after a while, like he either thinks Tom will understand he is joking or being sarcastic and let it ride, or he really has an issue with Asian people and their constant shoulder checking and just wants to vent about it some more. Also, Bill’s comments made me smile. :)

It’s just strange when you read all of his posts in that thread. I understand the ban, but I can almost imagine (if I give him the benefit of a doubt) that he was going over the top on the Asian issue to piss off the people that brought it up to begin with. If nothing else, I’ve learned from that thread to be wary when I see an Asian person approaching me on the sidewalk if I find myself in Vancouver. Unless I’m walking with Creole Ned, they seem to give him some space.
