Oh, you didn’t, did you?

(And for everyone else, sorry. That was a horrible experience, trawling through that).

I love the smell of casual racial stereotyping in the morning.

When I was in tenth grade, some of my friends and I skipped school to get loaded at my house because my mom worked. A bunch of missionaries came to the door wearing suit coats and skinny ties. We thought they were the FBI. When I found out who they were, I was like, “Man, we don’t want any.”

Calling someone out for being a racist isn’t censoring them. If you’re saying Spatzi should have the right to be a racist idiot but nobody else should be able to say anything about it, then your logic is incredibly silly. Also, you’re the only person here even bringing up “free speech”. This is an internet forum, dude. I’m amazed that still has to be explained.

Lynch, Qt3 isn’t a bastion of free speech, and never was, and for good reason.

This is a fundamental mistake people always make. I hear it so often, and it never fails to make me shout inside a little.

Free speech does not mean “I can say whatever dickish thing I want and no one can stop me”.

As soon as you say something that incites racial hatred, or violence, or general dickishness, you lose that right.

Guys, you’re being trolled here. “Lynch,” get it? And he doesn’t think the open racist was racist, and he supposedly thinks the nerd rage thread is a rage thread. This is someone playing a character.

Well you’re from the UK and it does seem to me that it’s pretty locked down up in there.

But in the US, you can incite racial hatred and general dickishness all you want.

and I for one will defend that right. But not on an internet forum, no thanks.

You’re probably right - though from an idealistic angle, I don’t think that’s a bad idea. You can say what you want, but we’ll sure as shit get angry and/or prosecute you for it if it violates laws.

I’m sorry… this always riles me up.

Also, free speech only relates to government censorship. Private individuals and communities can censor all they damn well please.

Also true. I don’t think I’ve seen a Lynch post that isn’t at least a subtle troll.

Something lost in grammar or translation, I suspect.

Actually, it does, but those taking advantage of that rarely remember that it also means your audience is free to tell you to shut the fuck up.

Thanks for the beautifully and patiently argued reply, Adam. Point taken.

Ah, yes. That’s something that I probably didn’t make clear enough/and or remembered in the heat of the moment.

It’s… uh, the thought that counts, eh?

Yeah, totally. You’re right. Prosecuting people for “general dickishness” totally isn’t a bad idea.

Persecuting, however? Totally legit.
