If you really believe that then you must not be paying attention to what you post. You routinely advise people to “lighten up” and/or “get over it” or similar things in that vein. You very much care what people believe, although admittedly you do it selectively and usually only when said person is contradicting or disagreeing with you.

Because I don’t want people to be so full of vitriol and start stupid arguments that lead to being banned? God forbid! I’m not saying that they have to stop, like others (like anyone who agrees with Tom’s bannings) seem to. There are times when excessive force is required (Bill D’s post way up thread), and there are times when it isn’t.

And what is this shit about me doing it when people disagree with me? Yes, I have told people to lighten up, mostly because they were getting way more into the argument than I am/was, and there’s no need for it. I don’t care if they want to continue, but I’m letting them know that I don’t intend to (Which, at least in my mind, is entirely better than stupid arguments (like this one that you seem to want to keep going) getting out of control and off topic (Also like this one)).

And it wasn’t an attempt at a merit badge for bravery. Once again, you’re fabricating problems out of nothing. It’s a good shtick you have, but more important things are being discussed right now. I haven’t seen the dog piling being productive from either a discussion sense or seeing any change in the person who makes the remarks. They either get very defensive because they feel they are being misunderstood or they slink away, happy that they’ve successfully trolled the place yet again.

It just shouldn’t be that easy. Trust that people know that you don’t tolerate racism. That you are a decent person. You don’t need to show this, because everyone assumes it until you open your mouth and prove otherwise. And if someone else says something racist, move on. Mark them as stupid in your memory banks and move on. Dog-Piling just doesn’t solve anything, gets everyone totally riled up and will almost certainly continue to result in bans to the people piling on.

Maybe there could be an Unofficial Quarter To Three Committee Against Racism and Child Beating. Whenever somebody makes a post that is deemed to be offensive, this group could make a single strongly worded post of condemnation, signed by the collective members.
