I regret reading the last ten pages of this thread, excepting for the surprisingly helpful advice regarding melon copulation. Also, I suggest using a silicone lubricant. Water based would simply be absorbed into the melon too quickly.

I don’t know then. I’ve been using it to refer to the people who think those who defended Tom and give Munky the benefit of the doubt are “disgusting and despicable” and who should “get the fuck off my planet” and that we should get down from our “tower of abuser-sheltering privilege”, etc…

I don’t know what Tim was using it to refer to though, but I think he’s become a little unhinged over the course of the thread.

I saw a bunch of quotes complaining that people were giving a child abuser a pass or too much benefit of the doubt, which is hardly the same as the strawman “nobody else despises child abuse” that Buceph twisted it into.

The DGS quote is probably the closest, but let’s see if he actually thinks other people do not despise child abuse before we start writing checks. He’s around. You could ask him.

It’s so cute how excited you are about this, though. But hey, since you’re so into it, if DGS does say he thinks nobody else despises child abuse, I’ll toss in $20 to the charity of your choice. How’s that?

It’s a distinction without a difference, nlanza. Yeah, Buceph might have been engaging in a little hyperbole, but the point is this: there are people in this thread, most notably but not only DGS, who have been arguing that anyone who says that the in-thread responses to Munky’s post were disproportionate, and that the ensuing bans might have been justified, are supporters of child abusers. As I said before, it’s intellectually dishonest and does nothing to further rational debate. (For the record, and not that anyone cares what I think, but I think EVERYONE in that thread screwed up, Tom included. Adree should have PM’d him with the info he found, and Tom should have responded by removing the thread.)

When we see that kind of straw man, guilt-by-association shit in a political campaign, we know exactly how much credibility it deserves. I don’t know why it’s not being called out here more vociferously and by more people.

Oops, I guess this makes me a thread cop. Or the rhetoric police. Or something.

My point was precisely that he was being hyperbolic, so I don’t agree that it’s a distinction without a difference.

I’m not going to defend what Adree and others did in that thread; I think they definitely went overboard. However, I think the opposing argument of “oh, just send a PM and don’t make a fuss” is unsatisfying. There’s reasonable middle ground, and all this hand-wringing about a “morality brigade” isn’t all that much better than what it’s fighting.

Besides, look at yourself. Weren’t you throwing a public fit about a post in this very thread recently? Surely you should have just reported the post or PM’ed Tom and gone about your business, right? Or does that only apply when it’s someone else doing it?
