Yes. If WarrenM got banned for posting a picture of a tongue getting caught in a mouse trap, I’d be pretty upset. He’s not my favorite poster, but he didn’t do anything worthy of getting banned.
Nearly all of my complaints of that nature are simply “Why is Poster A still here?”
NO! (STANDS, FIST RAISED) I AM THE BIGGEST FAN (BY FAR) OF DEMON G SIDES!
Yeah. I’m tempted to report that. I should have 0 fans. If anything, negative fans is probably better for everyone.

I probably have to lose a little weight.

Hanzii was also going after him in the Walking Dead thread.
Hans disagreed with Tom in two threads. Tom decided that this meant Hans was dragging around grudges.
I’m also wondering if Anax wasn’t banned for going after Demon and was actually banned for taking a tiny shot at Tom.

Whenever you run into a mod who disagrees with you, it’s going to be rough. I’ve had to leave (sometimes willingly, sometimes not)- sites due to this.
At least here the amount of mods is low enough that your odds is running into that situation is minimized.
Tom’s a good egg. He lashes out sometimes because he’s frustrated that people give him shit for doing a job that is: a) thankless and b) impossible. Hanzii and the others will be back next week.

I don’t know about Hanzii and Anax, but Abilio was banned for a month. It is also hard for me to feel too sorry about Tom’s thankless job of running Qt3 when he won’t accept any help or suggestions on how to make his job easier.

Anax seems increasingly hostile. Talk about holding grudges, I’ve calmed down quite a bit on this site (except re: Christianity and save-anywhere, that shit gets me every time), and motherfuckers like him and Majkut can’t ever seem to reply to anything without first dipping it into a bowl of cock soup.
And you think these hypothetical people helping him would do a better job? Who watches the watchmen? Tom’s a nice guy, mostly reasonable, but no person or system is perfect. You have to accept some imperfections in life and just deal. Tom’s moderation is the democracy of the internet. It’s the worst system possible, except for everything else.
Maybe Tom disagrees with those suggestions and isn’t a fan of turning his forum over to someone else?

I think it should be pretty clear by now that if you are going to go off on Tom like Abilio did, you are going to get some sort of reaction. And Abilio has been on that subject for some time, here and elsewhere.
People have this thread and the option of directly discussing things with Tom via PM when it comes to these issues. I don’t know how many times Tom has to make that clear before people realize that criticizing Tom in public threads (other then this one) about his moderation isn’t going to end well.
Do you really think adding mods would make moderating the forum easier? Tom would have to be the gangleader then, and I suspect that the amount of complaining would rise.
Anyway, no one needs to feel sorry for Tom. He’s not expecting that.
Tom is a nice guy but he is not reasonable and he becomes less nice and more unreasonable the more you disagree with him, no matter how trivial the object of your disagreement.
And anyone who disagrees with this has never disagreed with Tom.
I may be misreading your statement, but I don’t think the defense of the moderating is about feeling sorry for Tom. I get tired of hearing all the bellyaching about the moderating. I think the moderating here is actually quite good, but I don’t hang out on any other forums.
I remember on USENET the flight sim news group was very clannish and people were routinely routed, even some of the most popular devs (Andy Hollis?). Not to mention all the right wing, homophobic nut jobs. After a while, I just didn’t even want to hang out there anymore. I am not crazy about the whole group think nonsense. I am not happy when one or two cranks can run good people off. We don’t have any of that here.
I have disagreed with Tom and come out of it okay. That’s happened more than one time, I’m sure.
I don’t think it’s disagreement so much as it’s an unwillingness to conceded to his authority. Sometimes people say no. It’s not unreasonable to say no or to be unwilling to engage repeatedly on the same points.
