On the blog vs. forum thing, I get the impression that the majority of personal blogs go mostly unnoticed by all but their own authors. I think mine gets a few hits per year and that’s only because I mentioned Zac Efron once. On the other hand, a forum that grows into its own little community is bound to prompt at least some response on any topic that gets posted.

That’s weird, I think of it the other way around. On your blog everyone expects you to be rambling about whatever it is you usually ramble on about and they only go there because they want to hear what you have to say. They’re stopping by your place to see what’s up.

On the forum you’re creating a new topic in a common area where other people are who may or may not even know you and your new topic is like “Hey you random guys on the forum, guess what?”

It’s not his posts causing the drama. It’s the drama queens who can’t seem to keep themselves from reading and commenting on them.

No, it certainly is, but it’s generally not as “out there” as a blog. It’s sort of contained within this community. Which is such a huge part of the value. Jeff posts something, gets a bit of attention and encouragement, which there’s nothing wrong with, someone posts some outrageous advice, someone like BillD proves them wrong in an entertaining and education manner. Fun is had by all. Except the soggy people who don’t like fun.

Oh yeah, BillD has never gotten vitriolic on someone that doesn’t deserve it. You’re all buying this sappy turnaround shit too, which is pretty pathetic. I think everyone who isn’t being fooled is just deciding not to post.

I don’t get why we have to have this debate everytime Jeff starts a thread, even when he specifically asks that the thread not get derailed on this subject again, while Brettmcd starts an equally personal thread and nobody makes a big deal about it.

It’s pretty clear that enough people are fine with Jeff’s threads, including Tom, that we really don’t need to debate this over and over again. But even if that’s going to happen, it can happen in a reasonable and restrained way and not involve people crossing the line to making personal attacks against Jeff or anyone else they disagree with. That’s what this particular banning incident was about, after all.

I agree 100% that Jeff is not initiating the drama but it seems to follow him whenever he posts about himself. I wish him the best and honestly and sincerely hope he lives a nice long life, but I’m not clicking on anymore of his health posts. It’s difficult to get updates about how he is doing between all of the trash. If he had a blog, then at least he could post to that and I could see how he is doing.

Naturally it’s up to him on whether or not he wants to bother with a blog. But those threads eat up my negativity quotient for the week in just a few minutes.

I don’t know why you quoted me, my post wasn’t even about Jeff. I just thought Reptile’s take on forums vs blogs was a little weird so I posted about it. In fact, you’re the one who has taken my post and injected Jeff drama into it. So like, way to go or something. Now you can have “this debate” with yourself.
