Goddammit, less whining, more banning.
I’d take a thousand. Blooming.

Mao Zedong hats are hip and fashionable.
Um…all of the blinds in my place are top-down but maybe I’d like the other kind, too. I’m going to check some blinds websites now.

No, I didn’t read anything aside from your opening post. That’s why I was legitimately asking. Also, people might have PM’ed you their displeasure. I hope those people didn’t turn you off posting that type of thing in the future. That thing was the best produced post on Qt3 I’ve ever seen! Really surprised that most responses were negative. They were slamming you for going on a liquid diet or using Qt3 to discuss your liquid diet?
Note that my not reading it and non-participation were not because I disliked the thread or anything, it was just already a huge, overwhelming thread by the time I got to it. I’m kind of banking it as I’m curious what on earth you did to your body. Now I’m concerned there was no resolution.
Sure, but I think most of them were slamming you for going on the diet because they thought it was a bad idea, not for making the post. Personally, I enjoy the occasional “this is how my life’s going” threads, since they’re usually triggered by something interesting (your diet) or important (jpinard’s medical crisis). To echo many others, if you don’t care, don’t click. That’s what I do, and it works fine for me.
Actually, I slammed Bill in that thread for reasons completely unrelated to his diet.
Ha ha, yes, I’m drunk.
Who knows? Internet people aren’t interested in dieting information that doesn’t involve drinking gallons of Coca Cola Zero or suspicous research that indicates exercise makes you fat and doughnuts make you skinny, or something. It doesn’t matter, I don’t mind being teased on the internet. I expected it anyway, because it’s a weird diet. The diet I just finished after that is even weirder!
I’m confused, I don’t recall ever saying people shouldn’t post things about their lives on Qt3. Did I say that somewhere? Also, the people saying there was no resolution are wrong, I posted in there that I lost about 10 pounds with the diet. I didn’t make a huge deal about it or start another thread declaring my results.
I don’t mind occasional threads or posts about people’s lives, either. I never said I did.

First off, yes, “doughnuts.” I hope writing in the Queen’s is catching on!
There’s certainly a vibe that you don’t like those threads. I guess it’s because you’ve stated you don’t like posts having to do with Jeff’s illness, which I would think is a fairly large and important part of his life. Maybe you don’t realize it, but because of that you’re being grouped in with the people who seem to be against any threads dealing with personal issues.
Bill was telling people to not give jeff shitty advice, not saying that jeff shouldn’t post about his life. He said that Jeff shouldn’t ask Qt3 for advice on a disease that 99% of us are unqualified to remark on.

I mean before that whole hullabaloo even got started. I really don’t want to be that guy that starts going back and digging up older posts, but Bill made it quite clear in the past that he doesn’t like threads about Jeff’s illness. In fact, he requested that Jeff mark them as so in the title so he could avoid them in the future.
Oddly, Jeff basically took his advice and clearly marked that thread as having to do with his illness, but Bill’s reaction was to post that “Give up” image, which wasn’t the classiest move he could have made.
I think the image was taken the wrong way, though I understand how easy it could be to take an image like that the wrong way. He meant give up trying to just deal with the pain, and go to the hospital, whereas people took it as “give up, and die already.” which I seriously doubt Bill meant. I mean, yeah, he’s an asshole (Who isn’t?), but I doubt he’d seriously tell Jeff to go die in the most literal sense.

Fair enough, and I hope no one thought Bill was telling Jeff to literally end it. Some situations just don’t require that level of snarky humour, though. I’ve certainly been guilty of it, or worse. Not my best moments.

I’m a dick. Also, I misunderstood BillD’s image. That’s why I got all angry in the thread.
I’m a dick, but I’ll defend people who I feel are truly good to the end.

We’re still all jerks assuming about what his intentions were, but interpreting that image as a tasteless joke about giving up and dieing isn’t an unreasonable conclusion. It’s certainly an original way of telling someone to seek legitimate medical advice, but probably not the most effective.
It just kind of bothered me that in the past he asked if Jeff would kindly mark threads relating to his illness so he could avoid them, and when Jeff does he goes ahead and posts in it anyway, assisting in the start of some big dumb throwdown. And now I’m a part of that big dumb throwdown’s extension, which makes me the meta-asshole.
But shitty advice that one is unqualified to remark upon is the very mortar that holds the Internet together. Next you’ll want all the porn sites to move to hardcopy. I cannot approve this message.
I mean, shitty dating advice or shitty drunk advice is another. Advice that could literally kill someone isn’t cool =\
Damn, Demon - quit posting such mature posts. You’re making the rest of us look bad.

I also saw Bill’s image incorrectly. It was only in his later posts that it became clear what he really meant. In that regard, the image was unclear given Bill’s previous posts. While I didn’t see it as Bill suggesting anything nasty, I did interpret it initially as another negative comment on the general topic of the thread.
