He lost his cool over something very close to the bone, and the line wasn’t used as an insult to anyone but as a drastic scenario. Yeah, he was angry, but there’s been about forty posts in that thread that were more objectionable so it’d be a shame if he got a ban rather than just a quiet word in his ear.
I assume he just got a timeout, but as hotbutton offensive words go he really went for the triple crown.

On the one hand, yeah it’s stupid. On the other hand, he can’t really be surprised. It’s not like anyone who’s been here more than six months is unaware of the whole c-word thing, never mind c-c-c-comboing it with the n-word. Or in fact, should have to be told at all.

It was clearly an angry response to a deeply personal issue. In context what he said was not offensive unless the magic words make your eyes bleed. Hence the sense behind a warning.
I have no idea if this is the first time he’s crossed a line and I know Tom rolls his eyes at people armchair moderating, but I do feel this one was a bad call on the face of it.
P&R is a horrible cesspit, though. Otherwise reasonable people turn into screeching idiots and things turn ugly at the drop of a hat.
I am as mild-mannered, non-confrontational and fence riding as they come, but when I post in a thread in there I get all riled up. I can easily see how people who are substantially invested into a topic can act crazily when they otherwise would not.
More reason to stay the fuck outta there. ;)
I agree with this, but I’d be much happier if he got a slap on the wrist rather then a ban. After all it’s not like he’s doing anything harmful to the forum, he just had a little outburst over something (we’ve all been there). As such there’s really no reason to ban him, a small timeout to show the Entities displeasure should be more then enough.
I didn’t even know P&R was moderated, god I would hate to have that job.
Remember what Tom Chick says: horrific, deplorable violence (Funny Games, The Inside) is okay, as long as people don’t say any naughty words! That’s what this forum is all about!
